The Old Tithe Barn
Dorset

A restored 13th-century tithe barn on a working farm near Dorchester, The Old Tithe Barn is a rare find: one entire property, unfragmented, able to sleep a party of 19 people under one roof. Nine bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, spread across two floors—five with king-size beds, four with twins. Every room has a television. The layout suits multi-generational groups or friends gathering for a long weekend, with enough space that people can still find quiet corners.
The ground floor holds the social hub: a large kitchen equipped for serious cooking, a dining room, a living room with woodburner, and a games room with a pool table. Bed linen, towels, electricity and Wi-Fi are included. Outside, an enclosed garden wraps around the building, with patio, terrace seating and a barbecue; there is also on-site parking. One dog is welcome. The property does not permit smoking. Note that there is a lake on the farm itself.
Chesil Beach lies 2 miles away, with the Jurassic Coast and its heritage sites within easy reach. The location sits between West Bay and Portland Bill in a particularly scenic stretch of Dorset. A working farm setting means real countryside rather than village bustle, though catering can be arranged with the owner if cooking for 19 feels daunting.

See what Nicky says below.. This is exactly the same as we had in March. We too have never experienced anything like it. Company we booked through said they would wait for the owner to answer the problems. They claimed the owner never engaged yet, this property is still on their site and my review of it is not!

Stayed here the weekend of 27th February 2026, for our friends 60th. As a x-letting agent I've never seen a property handed over in such disgusting condition... Old furniture, stained, falling apart, kitchen items had to be washed before using, bathrooms that were filthy, blinds not working, showers that didn't drain away!!! We stay in a big house every year and this is the worst for cleanliness, the cobwebs and dust/dirt was terrible!! That place hasn't been cleaned for ages .. . One set of logs for fire, they were wet so we had to go out and buy some. The games room was a mess, pool table ripped and not useable. Then the other massive issue was mice! Not only were they running around the kitchen but bedrooms aswell, no traps out to catch them, the utility room stank of mice wee. White towels covered in mice poo. Interesting to see that the fire extinguisher was out of date for service and no electric pat testing on the items in kitchen (kettle didn't work). Whole place needs fumigating and cleaning top to bottom and making safe. Would never return.

Absolutely amazing accommodation There were 12 people in our family group holiday. The barn was big enough for us all and the large kitchen table (seating 20!!) was ideal for gatherings at meal times. We have already booked to return next year 👍

The house was perfect for 5 families to stay, 11 adults and 6 children. The layout of the house meant that each family had their own bedroom area so we didn’t feel we were on top of each other but were able to enjoy big family time in the large lounge area and meal times in the kitchen using the fantastic purpose built table that seated us all. Perfect location to get to Dorchester and Weymouth within ½ hour. However, the web photos need updating on all sites as they show far less furniture in the living room area and looked much newer. All the sofas and chairs were very tired, old and saggy. We were told the fire didn’t work when we arrived and had to rely on underfloor heating to heat the place which took a couple of days. The kitchen had lots of equipment but again very old and some not usable, frying pans that had seen much better days and couldn’t be used, saucepans with broken lids, the ovens were in need of a clean and the grill hadn’t been cleaned and still had foil on with burnt food from previous use. Everything we used, we had to clean. There was no rinse aid or salt either in the dishwasher or in the cupboard so had to go and buy. The kitchen could do with a deep clean and a good sort. The games room had a pool table but unusable as it had lots of cut marks in the cloth and the room was generally untidy and not very welcoming. All the bedrooms – in general, duvets not fitting the duvet covers, not enough pillows and were lumpy like they were really old. The description also said one bedroom with a single bed in, this didn’t exist so we had to improvise. The carpets are worn in places and cobwebs that had been there a while were all over too. Lots of light bulbs blown and some electricity sockets not working. Love that we all had our own bathroom and all were clean apart from some cobwebs. The house is great and ticked all the boxes for our requirements, however the cleanliness is really lacking, needs a really good clean and sort and this house could be not just great but fantastic.
