Woodside

Woodside is a recently constructed lodge designed entirely at ground level, with ramp access and everything on one floor. Two bedrooms—one with a king bed, one with two singles—sit alongside a shower room, while the open-plan living area combines kitchen, dining and sitting space under one roof. A hot tub on the decking is available for your stay, and there's parking for one car on site.

The kitchen is fitted for proper cooking rather than holiday shortcuts: electric oven, induction hob, dishwasher and microwave mean you can prepare meals properly. A shed holds a freezer and tumble dryer for longer stays. Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels are all included; the property is non-smoking throughout.

The location appeals particularly to cyclists. Woodside backs on to Mabie Forest, and the owner can arrange guided rides or walks. The Galloway Forest Park, the UK's largest, is nearby with waterfalls, mountains and lochs, plus excellent stargazing on clear nights. Castle Douglas, known locally for food, is within reach; Loch Arthur Farm Shop at Beeswing is about a mile away. The coast is 11 miles off.
