My partner and I absolutely adored the Mabie House Hotel. It was a last minute find and we couldn't have felt more lucky to stumble across it. It's a beautiful old building that is extremely well kempt and gorgeous, both inside and out. Laura on the desk was superb throughout our stay, our room was huge, very clean, and had everything we needed. We decided to have dinner there which was incredible, along with the service from Hazel and Sam. Breakfast the next morning was also perfect, with a lovely gentleman serving us. The property is gorgous, with beautiful views of the forest and a nice, peaceful surroundings. I cannot recommend enough!

Stayed a night because we had a beautiful Sunday lunch earlier in the year (booked by our son who lives nearby). We wanted to come back and sample more of the menu and the hotel itself. We weren’t disappointed. The food again was delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was a little dated, but the bed was so comfortable and we had an amazing view. The hotel has many positives — wonderful food, brilliant staff, and lovely grounds. Our room was adequate but extremely hot, and we needed two fans plus damp towels just so our dog could sleep. However, the one major downside was the single parrot in a cage for guests to ‘enjoy’ - whose living conditions were genuinely distressing and overshadowed our stay. The bird is kept alone, without natural daylight, in a busy hallway, next to a staff door, at the bottom of the stairs where guests constantly pass with heavy luggage. In one evening I witnessed children shrieking at it and a woman rocking the cage. Parrots are highly intelligent, social animals. Keeping one in a dark, noisy, high‑traffic area is not just unsuitable — it is actively harmful. It creates chronic stress, sensory overload, and leaves the bird vulnerable to physical interference from guests. This setup is far below modern welfare standards and risks damaging the hotel’s otherwise excellent reputation. I strongly urge management to take immediate action to relocate the parrot to an appropriate environment or reconsider keeping it altogether.

Fantastic location, wonderful staff, make you feel part of the family. A beautiful hotel set in its own grounds, with access to the mountain bike trails and Mabie forest. A gateway to the Solway Firth coast. Lovely home cooked food served with a smile. Sit and enjoy your food while looking at the panoramic views over the local countryside.
