A traditional seafront hotel on Dunoon's West Bay Promenade, with the beach on its doorstep and regular evening entertainment.
About Esplanade Hotel
The Esplanade Hotel sits directly on West Bay Promenade in Dunoon, with the beach immediately outside and views across the Firth of Clyde from many of its rooms. It is a traditional, relaxed hotel aimed squarely at guests who want to slow down, with a sun terrace, a bar and a restaurant built around watching the water rather than a packed activity schedule.
Entertainment runs on many evenings, a long-standing feature of Dunoon's larger seafront hotels that dates back to the town's steamer-holiday heyday, and the hotel is a regular choice for coach groups and returning regulars as well as independent guests. Its promenade-front position puts the pier, the shops on Argyll Street and Castle House Museum all within an easy stroll.
Like several of Dunoon's seafront hotels, the Esplanade operates a seasonal calendar, closing in late autumn and reopening in spring, so it suits visitors planning a spring, summer or early-autumn stay rather than a winter break.
What guests say
Hotel was basic and tired, food was not great had a small bowl of soup, about two tablespoons would have liked more to taste it asked for the lasagne, very small portion was not lasagne, more ratatouille with a (one)lasagne sheet with that was potatoes very salty odd choice and chefs salad choice which was very wilted two or three salad leaves..would not recommend. Dessert very small tea cup size if rice pudding with tinned fruit cocktail. Asked for a decaff coffee and brought out caffinated coffee bitter. Roasted and roasted. Our room floor was sloped When we arrived the door was not locked And had issue with locking it Asked for another soup roll, and the waitress looked as if to say no then took another from a table, not great as if she would rather be elsewhere only allocated one small jug of water no bigger than a t cup size again Asked for extra milk smallest jug ever seen asked for milk again waitress made a face and eventually came back with it, the lasagne( veg ratatouille) was stodge Outside the gardens are maintained and facing the beach with lovely views that was the only saving grace for this overnight. Bring this hotel up to scratch and it could do really well with the location otherwise very dated it is a shame. I do not have any photos inside of the hotel only outside with views of beach

We had a lovely overnight stay on a coach trip. The weather wasn't great but the staff were wonderful and the and food was great. Rooms were cosy and clean, comfy beds. There's a few bars not too far from the hotel and it's right on the sea front.
