Argyll Hotel

The room itself was strangely shaped and we hit out heads on the eaves a few times. The curtain did not reach the top of the window and so light was coming in from very early morning. However, the shower room was good and had complimentary toiletries. We found the service and food, good value for money. Would return, if a different room.

A nightmare hotel Our stay at the AGE Argyll Hotel couldn't have been worse. We were given a room on the third floor—essentially the attic—where the ceiling was extremely low; it was dangerous, as we kept bumping our heads. The room was stiflingly hot from the day's heat—the temperature was unbearable (we thought the heating might be on)—and, of course, there was no air conditioning. Worst of all, there wasn't even a fan. To top it off, there was only one tiny arched window; because it was a sash-style window, it couldn't be opened more than 15 or 20 centimeters. The floor was covered in thick carpeting, but the wood underneath creaked loudly and had noticeable gaps. The floor was sloped and the mattress was sagging. The bathroom was old and very shabby... The squawking of crows and seagulls right outside the window kept us from getting a wink of sleep, compounded by the suffocating heat. We had wanted to include breakfast in our stay, but the agency wasn't permitted to book it that way. The building is in terrible condition, and the luft... was terrifying. In short, we made it through the night as best we could and bolted from that horrible hotel at the crack of dawn—leaving as soon as we could.

Just went here for a drink. The staff weren't very engaging or knowledgeable. Nice location, but basic inside. The menu is an amalgamation of deep fried and microwaved fast food. When asked for a gluten-free menu, a member of the bar staff with poor language skills passed me the standard menu. We didn't and wouldn't order anything based on what we saw and what we experienced. I asked at the bar if they sold crisps and the staff member pointed towards a vending machine which didn't contain any crisps. I rest my case. An establishment where this kind of experience is what forms your first impression is, in my opinion, best avoided.

Final night of a pre booked 12 party family get together with relatives from Canada in the Argyll Hotel's "Taste our Best" Clyde Suite. This award was last won in 1994 when Chatters was the restaurant on site! Booking at 6pm and nobody came near us till 6.30pm. No food served till 7pm. 2 errors with starters. Table cleared eventually. No cutlery replaced. No empty glasses removed. Took glasses back ourselves and ordered another round Main courses served after 7.35pm. Straightforward fish and chips, steak pie, lasagne. Nothing "Taste our Best" about any of it! £300 bill. Presented the "manager" with our feedback and a paltry 10% discount was offered. Scottish tourism shoots itself in the foot once again. Do not use this place, go to the chippie across the road 😡
