The Stables is a converted stone barn on the edge of Durham, standing in a courtyard overlooking the River Wear. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms sleep seven, with a double and single in one room, a double in another, and two singles in the third. One well-behaved dog is welcome. The ground floor holds a living room with woodburner, a kitchen with full cooking facilities and dishwasher, and a separate toilet. Upstairs, the first bedroom has an ensuite shower cubicle.
Essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are included in the rate. You have private parking for two cars on site. A pub sits within a mile, and the property is positioned for exploring Weardale and the Durham Dales – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with walks in every direction. Barnard Castle and its ruined fortress lie within reach. No smoking indoors. The grounds contain a pond, so do take care with children.
