Delta Hotels by Marriott Durham Royal County

First the good news: the location is excellent. After that things aren't so great; the room was bland and old fashioned. The room was not serviced during our short stay. Fine with that re towels and bedding but it meant that the staff did not restock toilet rolls or teabags etc so we had to ask for them. The WiFi was intermittent. Not the standard we expect from a 4 star hotel with four star prices

This is a lovely hotel in a great location. Just a short walk to the centre/Cathedral/Castle. Large rooms. It’s a shame they don’t have a pool though. Friendly staff. It loses a star as no one checks the rooms on a daily basis so you have to go to reception for toilet roll etc but I suppose it keeps costs down. Also, they’re a bit over zealous at breakfast. You’re eating and they’re whipping plates away. Again, I suppose they like it to be clean but I like to have my breakfast in peace. I also think someone whipped away my room key which I left on the table when I went up to get my breakfast so I had to get a duplicate and I wasn’t best pleased. I was glad I held onto my mobile.

We recently stayed at this hotel and unfortunately had a disappointing experience overall, despite a great location. One of the main reasons we booked was because the website advertised a pool, which our kids were really excited about. When we arrived, we found out the pool is permanently closed. This was a big letdown and feels misleading, as it’s still being promoted online. The cleanliness of the room was also a concern. There was a toenail left in the sink and hair throughout the shower, which made it clear the room hadn’t been properly cleaned before our arrival. We were placed on the ground floor, and the window opened quite wide but didn’t lock properly. This made us feel uneasy from a safety standpoint, especially with children in the room. Breakfast was another disappointment. At £28 for one adult and two children, we expected something a bit more substantial, but it was a small and underwhelming buffet. The only real positive was the location, which was very convenient and made getting around easy. Overall, while the location is great, the misleading amenities, cleanliness issues, and lack of value for money would make it difficult for us to stay here again or recommend it to others.

We had a river view room and it was outstanding. The room was quiet, location quiet. Staff were quite friendly and knowledgable. The breakfast was very good and certainly a value if reserved the day before. We got spoiled by all of this.
