The Kingslodge Inn

We stayed three nights there, when we visited Durham last weekend. The room was nice, quiet and clean. The bathroom was quite big. The service is at the bar, which really gives the feeling of an inn. The girls were all very polite and helpful. The location is good. 10 min walk from the train station, with a forest in the back and about 15 min walk from the center of Durham. The breakfast was amazing. On first sight it looks small, but you can choose a dish from the breakfast menu, as well as from the things that are available around (croissant, cereals, jams and fruits). And of course you can have a very nice Yorkshire tea with milk. We also had dinner there twice and we tried some of the beers. All in all we ate very satisfied with the service and the quality. We definitely recommend the Kingslodge Inn if you are in Durham.

I stayed for one night in June and left first thing the next morning because I couldn't wait to get out. The staff were incredibly rude and looked completely miserable the entire time, creating an unwelcoming atmosphere from the moment I arrived. When I politely asked a young member of staff if she could help me with my bags, she rolled her eyes and responded with terrible manners. It was shockingly unprofessional and made me feel like customers were nothing but an inconvenience. Based on my experience, I think higher management needs to step in because the level of customer service was completely unacceptable. Even the assistant managers came across as rude and unhelpful, so it didn't feel like there was anyone willing to resolve the situation. The way I was treated throughout my stay was disappointing, and I left feeling unwelcome. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

I stayed here on multiple occasions, but not very recently. It's a charming old historic inn, with a really good restaurant, bar, and comfortable common spaces. The guest rooms were nice, perhaps a bit smallish owing to it being an historic building. The location is very attractive, near an old aquaduct, and away from the busyness of the main city, but very accessible by foot. I walk with a cane and am somewhat limited with mobility, and I found it an easy and very pleasant walk into town, just over the little bridge spanning the river. You don't need a car here to get around. Durham is a very walkable city, lots of points of interest to see. Highly recommend.

Booked this because of decent reviews but was disappointed. Rooms very tired and poorly lit with zero soundproofing. Bathroom had a broken light, dirty pull cord, ripped towels and tiny dated shower. Carpets were grubby in the room and in the corridors. We stayed two nights but the beds werent made or cups replaced / tea restocked. Breakfast was OK, and we ate in the restaurant on the first night and it was average..... but with lots of lovely restaurants a short walk away i wouldnt bother. Location is excellent however, close to the station and town centre.
