Ian Brown

Took my three children aged 5, 7 & 9 during 2025 summer holidays. The format was about 90 mins of tabletop STEM activities guided by students at the university, followed by a short break then ~90 minutes in the 'STEM pod'. The activities were suitable for all of my kids, and older as well. We did combining coloured water with pipettes to make new colours, molding prosthetic limbs for little mannequins, and a couple of other things. For the younger ones it was more playing/crafting, but for older ones could start to talk about some of the scientific ideas behind the activity. The STEM pod has a range of educational games - trying cancer treatments, nurturing a baby, cell top trumps etc. There is short video at the start, then the pod opens up for games, then after a while it closes for another short video and reopens with some different games. It's a good format and kept all the children interested for the duration. Overall we liked the experience a lot and will come back. Note: It is worth turning up before the scheduled start time as the sessions start promptly and there is a bit of a walk from the building entrance which is not well signposted and there may not be anyone on reception.

Came in school holidays, did the blood session and stem pod. Really well done, educational and fun. Perfect for 7-10 year olds, my 14 year old was way too old for it but liked seeing the labs and meeting the student and his 10 year old sister loved it. Fab cafe and gift shop too.

Took 20 year 8s and 9s last week. The stempod was so much fun for all of us (even the teachers). Booked a 'careers in health and science' workshop after and the presenter was so high energy and had great expertise, getting the girls to think about different work experiences, having the chance to speak to a scientist about her work and a dentistry student. Really worthwhile day out.

Our home education group visited, and we had nothing but praise to say about our visit. From the organisation of our visit to the day itself! The STEM POD and workshop was amazing, and the staff was so friendly, helpful, professional, and knowledgeable. A truly magnificent day, and we look forward to returning soon.
