About City Budget Guesthouse
For visitors who want to spend their money on sightseeing rather than accommodation, City Budget Guesthouse offers a stripped-back base in East London, within reach of the Tower of London. This is a place built for practicality rather than comfort, suiting those after a short stopover or a low-cost stay in a well-connected part of the city.
Rooms are kept simple, with the basics covered rather than extras provided. A shared kitchen gives guests the option to prepare their own food, and reception is staffed around the clock, which helps for late arrivals or early starts. Free WiFi is available throughout, useful for planning the day ahead.
Beyond the guesthouse, there's no shortage of options nearby, with pubs, restaurants and other eateries all within walking distance, along with local entertainment. It's worth noting that this property has had mixed feedback from past guests, so it suits those prioritising location and price over polish. As a budget option in a central part of London, it does the basic job it sets out to do.
What guests say
When I arrived, no staff were present at the property, and I waited more than an hour past check-in with no instructions provided by email, text, or phone; I was only able to obtain an entry code after hours with an American Airlines booking agent. Once inside, the room was unhygienic and unsafe, with bedbugs crawling on the sheets, cigarette burns on the furniture, trash in the window, and a foul odor. Future guests should be aware of these risks, and I strongly recommend taking video evidence in addition to photos if you encounter similar conditions, as this may be useful in legal or consumer disputes. The first three pages of my formal complaint are included here as evidence. Do not stay here.

WARNING – DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE! Worst and most stressful stay ever. I waited 40 minutes outside with my luggage while the property manager ignored 16 calls. After finally checking in, I left within 5 minutes — the place was filthy, smelly, mouldy, with bed bugs and a broken mirror. The manager offered “cleaning or another room” the next day, not immediately. I sent full evidence to Booking.com, and their agent confirmed a full refund, but I’ve received nothing. The property lied, and I was completely ignored. Disgusting experience — unsafe, dishonest, and not worth a single penny. Avoid this property at all costs!

From a personal experience, I would like to review the hotel. This place was pretty bad for a budget hotel. You couldn't find it at all, no sign or anything. Even most of the locals didn't know where it was. It took us ages to find the hotel. As we got into the hotel, it was quite scruffy. In room five, there is a broken mirror, stains all over the wall, overall it was pretty scruffy looking. The bathroom is shared but it has mould on the showers, we were planning to have showers but after looking at the terrible hygiene we couldn't. This is a big scam. If you are looking for breakfast you can kiss that goodbye. The kitchen is terrible and unhygienic. The kettle smelt burnt when we were making hot drinks, it doesn't even work probably! Barely even anything in the fridge! The location is quite good with some shops around and the service is not bad as they reply quickly to my WhatsApps. But the code on the booking information won't work for the hotel doesn't work, you have WhatsApp the owner and they give you the code and the room number from our text. It's pretty noisy aswell around the area. Overall I wouldn't recommend this hotel for anyone. If you are looking for a cheap hotel for a night than it's alright but don't stay there any longer.

The "Guest House" Which was just a room was situated in a very opressive area, lots of noise, people hanging around on the street corner etc etc. The room itself was, well, grubby. Wardrobe padlocked so we couldnt hang clothes. floor full of bits of dirt and fluff, obviously not been cleaned before our visit. Bed linen had stains and hairs so we just slept on top. Sat on the edge of the bed before sleeping and noticed the bogie that someone had wiped on the side of the fireplace. Window blinds were supposed to be green but had brown staining along the bottom and were filthy. Toilet had no loo roll and was stained and filthy. Toilet seat was nearly falling off. Were told breakfast was included but there was no breakfast, kitchen was a disgrace and filthy. Outside the room all the doors, walls and other bits we touched were sticky and looked like they had never been cleaned in years. . Carpets in hallway were completely badly stained. Didn't even check the shower out but left as soon as we could in the morning as couldn't wait to get out of there as we felt dirty after staying there.
