About The Oban Hotel
The Oban Hotel suits anyone after a straightforward seaside break rather than a polished luxury stay, offering 30 rooms right on King Edwards Parade with the Eastbourne seafront on the doorstep. It's a good fit for couples, older travellers or golfers passing through, given the parking on site and the nearby course, rather than those wanting a design hotel experience.
Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, free WiFi and drinks available in-room, with sea views from many windows being one of the hotel's strongest features. Beds are comfortable and the internet connection holds up well, though some rooms show their age and heating can be inconsistent, so it's worth packing an extra layer in colder months. Staff are on hand to help, and the hotel offers luggage storage, concierge services and meeting rooms for those combining leisure with business.
Outside, there's outdoor seating to make the most of the sea air, plus easy access to walking and cycling routes along the coast. Fishing and watersports are within reach for the more active, while pubs, bars and restaurants nearby cover evening plans without needing to travel far. Parking is affordable, which is a genuine plus for anyone driving down for a few days by the sea.
What guests say
Very good location. The room was clean, though a bit old-fashioned. Everything we needed was there. The price was right.

Hotel was extremely badly run with an appalling attitude from the manager / owners. As can be seen from the photos, the room's window opened at least 30 centimeters which is a clear contravention of Health and Safety laws, which state they should open to a maximum of 4 centimeters above ground level. (Incidentally it can also be seen how ripped and torn the curtains were). An intoxicated irresponsible person could easily fall out of the window causing irreparable injury or worse. Other notably dangerous points were a detached electric powerpoint, the television did not work (I was forced to contact them regarding this, they failed to attend) and the shower had no water coming from it at all. What was worst though, was the attitude shown by the managers / owners. When I approached them regarding these and standard queries over an impersonalised intercom system, the level of shared disbelief from both me and a fellow hotel guest (whom I did not know at all) at their approach led to an aggressive, arrogant display of intimidation where they locked us both out of the hotel. Once we were outside, they spoke to us both separately claiming that the other had been "evicted" from the hotel, with bravado-filled, aggressive and boastful assertion. This is behaviour one would expect from disruptive delinquent children, not hotel managers / owners of a provincial conservative seaside town. How a hotel can do that to a paying guest when they have not caused any harm or damage is unfathomable. Based on this, it is particularly alarming that they clearly have a willingness to do this to lone females late in the evening. They criticised me for the rate I paid (not that one has any control over prices charged to customers who voluntarily enter into a contract), seemed to hold a very discriminatory attitude in their approach ("you have white hair, you should know better") and when I pointed out in a query that 'not everyone has a smartphone in the country's aging population' they stated [sic] "that's a silly question" to me in mid-conversation. How anyone can see any of these aspects of service worthy of any accreditation or recommendation is incomprehensible.

Our stay was genuinely a pleasant experience from start to finish. The room was exceptionally clean and well-maintained, which made a huge difference in our overall comfort. Everything was spotless, and it was clear that a lot of care goes into keeping the rooms tidy and welcoming for guests. It really gave us peace of mind knowing we were staying in such a hygienic and fresh environment. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a comfortable and affordable stay. One of the unexpected bonuses was the parking. We paid only £2.35 for the night, which is honestly an incredible deal. Compared to many other hotels or locations where parking can be extremely pricey or even a hassle to find, this was a breath of fresh air. It made things so much easier for us and was one less thing to worry about. Having secure, low-cost parking added great value to our overall experience. The bed was another highlight—it was really comfortable, and we both had a great night’s sleep. It felt cozy and supportive, perfect after a long day of traveling. Waking up feeling well-rested really set the tone for the rest of our trip. All in all, we were very satisfied with our stay. Between the cleanliness of the room, the incredibly cheap parking, and the comfy bed, it was excellent value for money. We would definitely consider staying here again in the future and would highly recommend it to others.

The room has broken windows, no central heating- only a small portable heater. Shower door does not close - water everywhere when stepping out. Missing door handles, bathroom accessories kept falling off. I couldn’t sleep as I was freezing. The blanket in the wardrobe stunk so much of cheap perfume etc. Filthy windows - can’t see through on a sunny day!! The building has seen better days. A Fawlty Tower experience. The place is soulless!! My colleague’s room has no working plugs- kept tripping over due to number of people. She has to go to fuse box to turn the switch!! Otherwise location.
