About hub by Premier Inn Edinburgh Royal Mile
Edinburgh's Old Town is best explored on foot, and hub by Premier Inn Edinburgh Royal Mile puts guests right where they need to be, just off East Market Street within easy reach of the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace. The train station is also close by, making it a practical base for arriving without a car.
The 121 rooms are compact but well equipped, with comfortable beds, rainfall showers in the en-suite bathrooms, smart TVs and hairdryers as standard, plus air conditioning and drinks available in-room. Accessible rooms are available, and a lift serves all five floors. Some rooms show signs of wear, so it's worth setting expectations accordingly rather than looking for polish.
There's a restaurant and bar on site, breakfast is served in the morning, and reception is staffed around the clock. Parking isn't available at the property itself but can be found nearby for a fee. Staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful, and with plenty of eateries and entertainment within walking distance, the hotel works well as a straightforward base for seeing the city.
What guests say
Excellent budget hotel. Expect small rooms with ensuite bathrooms that afford minimal privacy (frosted glass door). Also, free WiFi, smart TV, air con, comfortable beds, rainfall showers. We opted for the slightly larger room which included a mini fridge, kettle, coffee maker and a little more floor space. Cannot fault the location, station, Royal Mile, Holyrood, old and new town all within walking distance. Finally, the left luggage facility is free and liberates you to explore unencumbered. The hub was a little expensive but it was a bank holiday marathon weekend so perhaps more reasonable at other times. Staff were very helpful. The paid breakfast is a great option in their clean, bright cafe/bar. The rooms are small but that is the concept and it's a great one if it works price-wise. Excellent bed and bathroom. Location was perfect for both new and old town access. Quiet at night. Carpets and bar chairs could do with attention. Would visit again.

We stayed at the hub by Premier Inn Edinburgh Royal Mile for a total of four nights (one night at the start of our trip, and three nights a week later). While the lobby and café look nice and the location is undeniably convenient to the Royal Mile and most city attractions, the rest of the hotel is severely lacking. It feels like all maintenance stopped 5 to 10 years ago. The Rooms & Cleanliness: Both rooms we stayed in were visibly dirty. There was mold in the bathrooms, the outside mirrors looked like they had never been cleaned, the carpets throughout the hotel were filthy, and the window shades were tattered and broken in the down position. Compounding the issue, both rooms had an incessant, loud dripping noise coming from the A/C unit that made sleeping extremely difficult, alongside the constant sound of running water from above that sounded like a toilet overflowing. While we knew the rooms would be tiny, the layout makes no sense. There are literally no shelves or hooks to place your luggage or belongings. The hotel signage encourages you to reuse your towels to save the environment—a policy we completely support—but there are absolutely no hooks or towel racks to hang them up to dry! Furthermore, we were only given one hand towel and one bath towel (and no washcloths). When we asked, the front desk told us housekeeping usually only stocks rooms for single occupancy, meaning couples have to manually request a basic second set. Flawed Technology: The control panel behind the bed is poorly designed. The light button controls both sides of the bed simultaneously, meaning if one person wants to read while the other sleeps, both lights must stay on. Additionally, if you sit up in bed with pillows, your shoulders easily bump the panel; we think this is why our "Do Not Disturb" light kept constantly shutting itself off. As for the "Smart TV," it feels 15 years old with no cable and only about a dozen local news, sports, and reality channels. On our second visit, we even had to manually fix our bedding because a king-sized duvet had just been shoved clumsily sideways into the cover. Staff & Front Desk Failures: The service here was incredibly frustrating. On our first day, we arrived at 7:30 a.m. A young woman at reception told us we could check in early at 11:00 a.m. for an extra £15, so we stored our luggage. Yet when we returned at 11:00, she told us we actually couldn't check in early because we booked through a third party like Expedia. She eventually allowed it, but it begs the question: why weren't we told that hours earlier? Our second check-in was even worse due to an extremely rude and incompetent male employee. He was actively chatting on the phone with his girlfriend and completely ignored us. When a helpful female colleague tried to get to the computer to check us in, he refused to move out of the way, literally stating, "I'm talking to my girlfriend," as if his personal call took priority over paying guests. The female employee was clearly as irritated by his lack of professionalism as we were. The Café: Even breakfast was poorly managed. There is a prominent sign reading "Wait to be seated," but if you actually comply and wait, you will go hungry because the staff completely ignores it and no one will ever come to seat you. This property clearly used to be a nice hotel, but a total lack of upkeep and highly unprofessional front-desk staff completely ruined the experience. We won’t be back.

PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST!!! I stayed in this filthy place a week ago. Nothing was working. Windows do not open. AC doesn’t work. Mould everywhere. Carpet smelled like urine. I also found white stains on the wall that looked like human excretion!!! Blood stains on the duvet! The guy from the reception did not bother to change it. I was told housekeeping went home! I had to sleep in sheets stained with blood!!! Hair dryer didn’t work. BROKEN BLIND did not let me sleep either. The guest next door smoked cigarettes and the whole floor would stench like a junkie paradise. Location is central but the street is full of tents with homeless people. It doesn’t feel safe at all. Horrible value for money. 200 pounds to sleep in a boxroom. This place should be shut down by the city council. I don’t know why nobody has reported it yet. AVOID PREMIER INN!!!
