Each of the seven rooms at Forest How Guest House comes with its own en-suite bathroom, and many look out over the garden or the surrounding fells, giving guests a quiet, adult-only base in Eskdale Green. Rooms come stocked with drinks, and free WiFi is available throughout, so the feel is comfortable rather than showy.

Breakfast is included, and packed lunches can be arranged for days out on the fells. Outside there's a garden with seating for taking in the mountain views, and practical extras run to free on-site parking, an electric vehicle charge point, a laundry service and 24 hour reception. Pets are welcome, so dogs can come along too.

Eskdale sits well for walking and cycling, with horse riding, golf, watersports and entertainment all listed nearby, along with pubs, bars and restaurants for evenings after a day on the trails. It's a straightforward, well-equipped stop for exploring the Lake District National Park at a walker's pace.
