I am totally disappointed with this hotel. We went for breakfast with our family and were asked to wait in the waiting area. We waited for more than 50 minutes after being told by a staff member that a table would be provided, but no table was ever arranged. We then spoke to the reception staff, who showed no interest in helping or resolving the situation. We had plans booked outside the hotel, and our two children were hungry after such a long wait. In the end, we had to leave without having breakfast because we couldn’t miss our pre-booked activity. This was a very frustrating and disappointing experience, especially considering breakfast was included in our stay.

Just returned from 2 day break at Penmere Manor. We had a fantastic time The room was massive [25] compared to anywhere else. Plenty of room for the 3 of us and the TV actually worked!!! Breakfast was brilliant. All nicely cooked and extras to order .. the poached eggs were fab!! Swimming pool was lovely as was the jacuzzi and sauna all included. I couldn't have stayed at one of the budget chain hotels for what we paid either so that is a bonus! Staff were all amazing, really helpful and friendly, couldn't ask for more. Thank you

We recently stayed at Penmere Hotel for what was meant to be a special occasion. Unfortunately, the experience was overwhelmingly disappointing. I want to start by saying the staff were excellent — friendly, approachable and professional throughout. They handled situations well and are clearly doing their best on the front line. They were the only real positive of our stay. Although we were given a full refund, which we appreciate, the issues we experienced go beyond money. Time is valuable, especially when balancing work and children, and that lost experience cannot be refunded. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable, however the property is extremely dated. There was no plug socket next to the bed and the cups provided were very small rather than standard mugs. Outside our patio doors there was constant dripping from a broken gutter, a large pile of cigarette butts, and a poorly maintained patio area full of weeds and dirt. The biggest issue was noise. The sound insulation is extremely poor. In our first room, we could clearly hear every movement from above, along with toilet flushing and the cistern refilling. It kept us awake until after 2am and then woke us again at 6am. Staff kindly moved us at midnight, but unfortunately the second room had the same issue with loud plumbing noise from the adjacent room. Being moved at 12am is not a solution when the problem is structural. We also used the leisure facilities. The sauna in particular raised concerns — the wood above the coals was blackened and brittle, and the lower door frame appeared to be rotting. It did not feel well maintained. There was also a strong damp smell walking from the garden rooms through to reception and the bar area. Breakfast was mediocre, with low-quality ingredients that did not reflect what you would expect for a hotel stay. This review is not aimed at the staff. The issues are clearly maintenance and investment related. The hotel’s website presents a clean, fresh image that does not reflect the reality of the experience. We chose to raise concerns privately first out of respect, but future guests should be aware of the condition and noise issues before booking.

Stayed here on Sunday evening and had the most delicious dinner, definitely worth a visit. This was probably one of the nicest crab salad starters that I have ever had, followed by hake, which was equally delicious
