About Lock Chambers Caledonian Canal Centre
Homemade soups and a proper Scottish breakfast are the starting point at Lock Chambers Caledonian Canal Centre, a café-hotel right by the water in Fort Augustus. The kitchen has built a reputation for hearty, good-value food, though some dishes have been known to arrive less than piping hot, so it's worth flagging if that matters to you.
Rooms are clean and modern, several with views over the canal, and all come with en-suite bathrooms, drinks and free WiFi. Family rooms are available, pets are welcome, and reception operates around the clock, so arrival times are flexible. Free on-site parking makes it an easy stop for those touring the Highlands by car.
Fort Augustus sits at the southern end of the Caledonian Canal, with Loch Ness nearby adding an obvious excuse to explore further. Walking, cycling, fishing, golf and watersports are all within reach, and there are pubs, restaurants and other eateries close by for evenings out. Staff are consistently described as friendly, and the location makes a practical base for getting out into the surrounding countryside.

★★★★★ Great café stop! Stopped for a quick bite during my trip back from the Isle of Skye. The café is clean, modern, and has beautiful views. I had the homemade vegetarian leek and potato soup, which was absolutely delicious and very comforting. There was also a great selection of cakes and Scottish treats. Friendly staff and a wonderful place to take a break. Highly recommend!

Stopped for lunch whilst visiting the beautiful town of Fort Augustus. Very friendly staff, nice clean seating area. Food was served quick and hot. The soup of the day was delicious and my baked potato with tuna and cheese followed suit. All finished with a small festive empire biscuit and mocha. I was pleasantly impressed by this cafe/restaurant and most definitely return.

Beautiful and clean hotel right next to locks on the Caledonian Canal. The communication from the hotel was very thorough and we had no problem entering the hotel or finding where to park. The room was extremely clean with a nice little touch of cold milk in the mini fridge. Only complaint is the wifi was basically useless and cell service can be spotty in the room. Aside from this minor inconvenience, it was a wonderful stay. If you have the chance, worth staying here. We were only there one night but next time will be longer. Nice easy walk down to Loch Ness.

Very busy tourist location. Nice cafe at the back with some external seats looking over the river Ness. Didn't bother the cafe as the queues were to long we used the takeaway area at the front a lot more accessible and no where as busy as the cafe. The shop had the usual touristy tatt I suppose whatever it takes to tick yer boxes 📦 🙄 😒 😑 🙂 🙃
