About The George Hotel

The George Hotel occupies a Georgian building at 5 Market Place, in the heart of Frome, offering twenty-eight ensuite bedrooms above a working bar and restaurant. Its location puts guests within a few minutes' walk of Cheap Street, Catherine Hill and the site of the monthly Frome Independent market, making it one of the most convenient town-centre bases for exploring on foot.

The restaurant focuses on seasonal ingredients sourced from South West suppliers, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, while The Granary upstairs hosts live sport and games nights and can be booked for private events. An outdoor courtyard and dog-friendly policy add to the relaxed, pub-hotel feel of the property.

As a straightforward, well-located hotel rather than a boutique retreat, The George suits visitors prioritising a central position and easy access to the town's markets and shops over spa facilities or extensive grounds.

Location in middle of town on Main Street. There is a car park, but offload your bags first. Check in was easy and we had to do so early as we had a wedding to go to and would arrive after midnight. We had to leave our bags and get into our rooms. I asked for a quiet room away from the main road, so was very surprised to have a room immediately over the Main Street and the windows wouldn’t close close, so it was a night with very little sleep! Breakfast was very nice as were the staff.

Gorgeous old pub and hotel. Very clean and all staff accommodating. Breakfast staff Vicky and Lauren were a delight and made sure everyone felt well looked after. Bar staff, especially Wayne who was a hoot, and cleaning staff go above and beyond. The food is very good and great choices for breakfast. Our room was lovely and had everything you needed.

I have only had a meal at this hotel so unable to say what the rooms are like, but the service was second to none, very friendly staff, very clean bar and restaurant and with comfortable seating. When our meals arrived you could tell it had all been cooked fresh, no microwaved items and the potions were just the right size and couldn’t fault the quality either. I would have no issues in recommending this hotel for the food and we will definitely be back.

The service, staff and food at this place are exemplary! Wayne in particular is an absolute asset to the team. He really is so funny and friendly, really really made our stay! The dinner and breakfast was amazing, with quick service and brilliant food. Great atmosphere! The granary sounded amazing but it was closed for private functions - we will definitely be back to visit there! Unfortunately, the hotel left a lot to be desired. The rooms are really dated, and not very clean. There was a mouldy tomato by our bed and the bathroom was riddled with mould and limescale build up on the tap and shower head. The paint is flaking, the floorboards feel like they’re ready to collapse and the windows looked like they were going to fall out! Could definitely benefit from double glazing as you can hear everything outside and, on a weekend, that does affect sleep unfortunately. We also couldn’t work out how to turn off the towel rail so it was very warm in the room, but luckily they provided a fan so wasn’t too much of a big deal. The bed was a bit on the smaller side and was very firm, although we are used to a king sized bouncy mattress at home so that could just be preference! Regardless, we did have a nice stay. The fancy tea, coffee, biscuits and different milks were a really nice touch, along with hot chocolate and fresh water. A lot of places don’t have oat milk in the rooms or at breakfast, so to have both made me so happy! The TV works well, with plenty of channels. We brought our own toiletries but there was a good selection there and you could also buy some items from the hotel if you had forgotten certain things. Wi-Fi worked well and the pillows were nice. The breakfast was brilliant, plenty of hot and cold options, lovely coffee, quick service. Plenty of variety and catered to everyone! We really enjoyed eating here. The puddings are also delightful. We spoke to staff and a hotel refurb is in the works so that’s good news! Couldn’t fault the location, the bar/restaurant or the staff. Amazing really, just a shame the hotel let it down. Would 100% love to come and stay again when the refurb is done. :)
