A nice little find hidden away. There was an Easter activity going on at the time with games spread across the site. Although the site wasn't the biggest is still had a lot of history, and a lot of rooms to explore with loads of artifacts. There was an art exhibition going on at the time and loads of mini models in the loft space. Really nice to explore and see. Highly recommend this lovely country home and we managed to see the lovely peacocks on site and the young ones

Great place to visit with a rich history lots to look at and plenty of information. We started in the cafe and had a hot drink and sausage butty to warm us up it was very nice and a decent price. We then started to have a look around the house but just before we started some old bat told me to carry my bag rather then have it on my back for some reason the only explanation I can think of it makes them feel important. We enjoyed looking around the house and would definitely recommend we then had a walk around the garden before have a picnic near the river. It's also a lovely drive to get there through the Yorkshire countryside.

Great house the rooms are decorated in the inter war period, they offer a fascinating glimpse into that period of time. The house is set in a peaceful river setting, with Peacocks roaming.. There is a cafe and second hand bookshop on site. I took a behind the scenes tour with a volunteer which you get to see items that can not be currently displayed or are too fragile to be displayed.

Called today as we'd stayed in York overnight. The lady on entry was fabulous and funny. She recommended we take the garden tour with Paul due to start in 9 mins...12pm. This was a very knowledgeable tour of the gardens im glad we didn't miss, even given it chucked it down for a good 15 minutes of the tour im glad we stuck with it. Peacocks roam the gardens and we were treated to a wonderful display while having a go at archery. The house although not huge is a good big house with beautiful rooms and crafts on display. All the staff today 12/4/2026 we're great. The only negative we took away from the day was the Pie of the day...unfortunate doesn't quite say it. I wish I'd taken a photo. It was a pile of mash with an unturned squashed pie on the top covered in gravy. Which would have been fine, Pie of the day with mash is what it says you're getting, however... This Pie...Well it was burnt, looked like it had been held in the oven since they opened and this was around 2 the pastry was so dark and you couldn't put a fork in it to cut it, it splintered off even with the gravy over to soften it. The tea room was very busy, we didn't make a fuss. My quiche was nice enough. Drinks all good. Just a shame at £12.99 the pie wasn't that edible. Also a little vegetable wouldn't have gone a miss even if just some garden peas as it looked very unappealing. Sorry, as the rest of the visit was fab and I would definitely recommend it.
