One Devonshire Gardens made its name in the 1980s as the city's first genuinely luxurious small hotel, and the address still carries weight. It occupies five adjoining blonde sandstone townhouses on a residential terrace off Great Western Road, roughly two miles from the centre and a few minutes from the Botanic Gardens.
Inside, the layout is deliberately domestic: panelled drawing rooms, open fires in winter, and staircases rather than long corridors. Bedrooms vary considerably between the houses, with the larger suites running to freestanding baths and separate sitting areas. Anyone with mobility concerns should ask about lift access, which does not reach every part of the building.
The restaurant and the wine cellar are central to the experience, with tasting dinners and a list that goes well beyond the group standard. Byres Road, Ashton Lane and the Kelvingrove galleries are all within a fifteen-minute walk, and Hillhead Subway station connects to the centre in under ten minutes. It suits couples and anyone wanting a quieter base than the grid provides.

This hotel is perfect. You will be staying in beautifully preserved heritage buildings. The room was stunning, with all the little touches such as robes and good quality bed linen. The bed was the comfiest thing I have ever slept in. The rooms are decorated in an exquisitely stylish fashion, nothing gaudy at all, just one hundred per cent understated elegance. However, what really makes this hotel is the staff. They could not be more helpful, whether carrying my bags, organising taxis or sharing their local knowledge. The location is fantastic too, with beautiful greenery surrounding the area and easy access to all the key parts of the city. Can I also give personal thanks to Eimear. I had travelled for three days through Spain and France and was frankly exhausted when I arrived, so to be greeted by her warm professionalism was very welcome.

We stayed here for 2 nights the night before and the night of a wedding. Staff here were incredibly attentive and friendly. The hotel caters to all sorts; another family member with mobility needs managed great with his room and was really well taken care of and in our room we had our 1 year old with us which they also accommodated with a really good sized cot made up and in place for us. Rooms are huge, beds incredibly comfortable and bathrooms clean. Really beautifully presented hotel with staff all a credit to the hotel. Thanks for our stay!

This hotel is created out of 5 adjoining houses and is beautifully appointed. It's worth the extra cost in my opinion as each room is decorated with an individual style and colours. Location wise - there are plenty of buses for the town centre and the big museums of Kelvingrove, Huntarian and the Botanical gardens are within walking distance. A good range of restaurants in the Byres road which is also in walking distance.

An 18th birthday lunch for fratenal twins. Set menu wonderful value. Staff attentive and courteous. The restaurant and hotel are the classiest venue in Glasgow. Only The Buttery competes. The rest of Glasgow is very second rate compared to 1DG.
