About DoubleTree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel & Spa
Walk into your room at the DoubleTree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel & Spa and you'll find a good amount of space to spread out, air conditioning, an en-suite bathroom, and drinks provided for making yourself at home. Some rooms show their age more than others, but the overall standard across the 184 rooms is comfortable, with accessible rooms also available and lifts serving all five floors.
Beyond the room, there's a proper spread at breakfast, plus a restaurant, bar and snack bar for the rest of the day, with room service, packed lunches and kids' meals on offer too. The spa is a genuine highlight, with a gym, sauna and hot tub alongside an indoor swimming pool, and staff are generally on hand to help, though not every guest finds the welcome as warm as it should be. Gardens, an outdoor seating area and a picnic spot give some outdoor options on site, and the hotel also handles meetings, weddings and business trips with dedicated facilities.
Set on Ripon Road in Harrogate, the hotel is well placed for the town's convention centre, gardens and boutique shops, with cycling and walking routes, golf, fishing and horse riding all nearby, plus pubs and restaurants within easy reach. Pets are welcome, and on-site parking is available for a charge.
What guests say
My wife and I stayed at the Hilton Harrogate for one night. There were definitely some positives, but unfortunately our room and some of the facilities fell well below what we would expect from a Hilton hotel. The staff were excellent throughout our stay. Ashley, the Duty Manager, and Renisha on Reception were particularly helpful, professional, and did their best to resolve the issues we experienced. The lobby area, staircase, and function rooms are absolutely stunning, with a grand and elegant feel that creates a great first impression. Unfortunately, the King Room we were allocated was quite disappointing. The décor felt old and dated, and the room itself was dusty. While the double sinks in the bathroom were a nice touch, there were several maintenance issues. The bath would not drain properly and I had to fiddle with the plug to get it working. The shower hose had a split in it, causing water to spray everywhere when using the handheld attachment. The paint on the coving above the shower was peeling badly, which added to the overall tired appearance of the room. There were also some practical issues. The dressing table mirror was not positioned properly for someone wanting to do their makeup, and a fridge had been placed where the chair would normally be. The room was extremely hot. Although there was a fan provided, it was faulty and the blades were catching on the metal grille, making a loud noise. I ended up removing the front cover just to make it usable. We repeatedly tried calling Reception and Guest Services, but nobody answered. Eventually, once we spoke to staff directly, they provided a replacement fan. As the hotel was fully booked, moving rooms was not an option. The overnight experience was not ideal. To cool the room down, we had to leave both the windows and curtains open. This allowed some airflow but also meant we could hear the noise from the external ventilation system throughout the night. We also used the spa facilities. The indoor facilities were pleasant and well maintained. However, the outdoor hot tub was very disappointing. The water appeared dirty, with hair floating in it, which was unhygienic and off-putting. Several other guests also seemed concerned about its condition. Overall, the hotel's public areas and customer service were impressive, but the condition of the room and the cleanliness of the outdoor hot tub significantly affected our stay. While the staff did everything they could to help, the hotel is in need of investment and refurbishment, particularly in the guest rooms

I stayed one night in the Hilton Harrogate. I booked the base level room but was given an upgrade to the King Bed Deluxe Guestroom, with my Honors Diamond Status. No drink vouchers etc were provided at check in but the doubletree cookie was as nice as always. The hotel is conveniently located but looks very shabby from the exterior, it could do with a pressure wash! The interior was lovely, although the elevator did not go all the way to the top floor, with a slight of stairs needed to get there- something to keep in mind for accessibility purposes. The room was large and comfortable, with a king sized bed and multiple armchairs. I was a big fan of the spacious bathroom too. However, the TV was not smart in any way and could only play a limited selection of channels- it would have been nice to know before hand that I’d need a HDMI cable for my laptop. The breakfast was in the diner which looked very nice, but it was a bog standard hotel breakfast- I’ve had better in other Hilton’s. If I had to pay for it, I wouldn’t have bothered. I did not use the spa amenities but the gym was okay, it had a slightly wider selection of equipment than most Hilton’s. The staff were friendly and I had no issues. I paid about £90 which I would say is good value, but on nights when it is £250, I’d suggest to look elsewhere.

We attended a wedding anniversary and found the location easy to find via satnav. The grounds appear well kept as is the imposing building. Staff were curtious and helpful in regard to available parking. The size of the building is such that more than one event can be held without imposing on another. The foyer area is large, open and quite grand with comfortable seating. The hotel is situated a short car ride on the outskirts of the centre of Harrogate. Our overall experience was a positive one.

I know the period of time I stayed here was during a heatwave but I booked to stay here a month ago with the expectation that it would give a similar experience to other Hilton hotels I’ve stayed at. So far it has not been a pleasant experience. When I got to my room 250 which is supposed to be a accessible room, I noticed a portable heater and then realised there was no controls for the rooms temperature. Turns out it doesn’t have air conditioning and it was far too warm for me. Not only that but the corridors leading to my room had radiators on which was too hot to touch. So it’s 30°c plus weather-wise, whatever temperature with the hotels heating full on and no way to cool the room down. The only saving grace was something told me I’d need my water bottle before I left home, which I have to ask the staff at the downstairs bar to fill with drinking water. No one helped me carry my breakfast to my table when they could see I was struggling with my walking frame., this was Monday morning. Others might like it here but I won’t be booking this place again. More style than substance. Up to this point it is Monday 25th of May and I had attempted to communicate with the hotel both through their sms system and calling reception, only to be told the heating shouldn’t be on when it was and there wasn’t anything they could do. I went out for the day that Monday and came back later to find the corridors radiators and towel rails was turned off. By the time 8pm came, I was laying on my bed and noticed I was getting uncomfortably warm again. There wasn’t any radiators in the bedroom area but the ensuite towel rails had been turned back on and they were hot. They weren’t turned off at all for the rest of my stay. I wasn’t offered a fan because I was told the hotel had run out of fans. Not that they would have made a difference, because they just blow already warm air around. On the Tuesday 26th of May I was helped with breakfast for once, but because their breakfast had given me an upset stomach on the Monday and Tuesday, I refused to eat it again on my last day Wednesday. I couldn’t get out of this hotel quickly enough. They could have turned the heating off the towel rails which would have reduced how uncomfortable it was. With the heat from the heatwave being more than sufficient to dry the towels, but they chose not to. They can get portable air conditioners as a temporary system to reduce the heat but they won’t. The hotel is under some bad management and I have absolutely no interest in going there again.
