The Wye Valley Walk starts from your door, threading through woodland owned by the estate where deer, badgers and red kites are regular sightings. The vineyard itself offers tastings and tours if you want to learn how the owners produce their wine, or simply wander the grounds where a freshwater lake adds birdsong to the peace. Ross-on-Wye sits nearby for riverside walks and market-day atmosphere, while Hereford and Gloucester are within reach for a day out.

The Game Larders is a one-bedroom cottage packed into the footprint of a 16th-century half-timbered building, all exposed beams and leaded windows. Downstairs, the open-plan living and dining space has a Smart TV and a kitchen equipped to cook proper meals. Upstairs, the bedroom holds a 6ft bed and the bathroom combines a bath with a shower. Bed linen, towels, wi-fi and heating are covered, and there's parking for one car on site. One well-behaved pet can stay free.

This is the kind of place where you arrive after 4pm, light a fire mentally if not literally, and don't think about leaving until checkout at 10am. The shared grounds include garden furniture and sitting areas to choose from depending on your mood. No smoking inside, but the whole property is yours alone.

Amazing place - the manor house has been in the same family since it was built over 500 years ago. The first vineyard was planted in 2010 and Frank took us on a very informative tour explaining the details and nuances of the winemaking process - really interesting. We then met Jamie who took us for a tasting of 3 of their most popular wines - a white, a rose and a red. The red had been a recent gold medal winner which had considerably raised their profile in the industry. Each was for sale at prices around £27 with a sparkling white at £35. Fascinating couple of hours and well worth the cost of the tour.

A visit to Wythall Estate was a delight to behold, With fine wine, local cheeses, and stories warmly told. Gus served us with kindness, charm beyond his years, Sharing Australian adventures that brought smiles and cheers. When the afternoon drew to a close, Jamie kindly saw us home, A gesture of hospitality that will long in memory roam. To Gus and the family, our thanks we gladly raise— A promising future awaits their vineyard in the years ahead. Lots of love, Chloe & Katie (your new admirers)

This was our second time at Wythall and we love it! It's a place where you can relax and find yourself and a perfect base for touring the beautiful south-west. Jamie and Angus are fantastic hosts and always have tips for the next adventure. Jamie, we have promised to come back and we will!
