A two-room pub-hotel on Hexham's Main Street, handy for Alston Moor Golf Club and the walking and cycling country around Northumberland.
About The Rose And Crown
Golfers and walkers have plenty to occupy them around The Rose And Crown, with Alston Moor Golf Club within easy reach and open countryside nearby suited to both cycling and rambling. Riding Mill also lies a short drive away, making this a sensible base for exploring the Hexham area without needing to travel far each day.
The hotel itself keeps things simple, with just two rooms, each en-suite, so guests get a quieter, more personal stay than at a larger property. Free WiFi, drinks in the room and accessible room options are all provided, and free on-site parking makes arriving by car straightforward. Luggage storage and 24-hour reception add a bit of flexibility for early or late arrivals.
Downstairs, the restaurant and bar do much of the work, serving a varied menu that runs from Sunday roasts to burgers and fish dishes, backed by a solid drinks selection. Breakfast, packed lunches and kids' meals are all available, and the garden with its views is a popular spot, particularly for those travelling with dogs. Staff are consistently described as friendly, and the atmosphere leans cosy and homely rather than formal, with prices generally considered fair for what's on offer.

What guests say
We only had food here for 2 consecutive evenings as the first night was so good. The staff were all lovely & very pleasant. The first night we both ordered a burger, they were beautifully cooked & absolutely gorgeous. The second night we shared the crispy beef as a starter which was delicious then I had the Stone Bass with mushroom risotto & it is most definitely the best fish dish I have ever eaten. My Husband had the beef pie with mash & he said it was absolutely gorgeous. Would highly recommend & if we ever holiday here in the future we will definitely be visiting again. Many thanks.

Lovely pub with a good choice of food and drink on offer which is all reasonably priced. We sat in the back room and had nice views over the garden, the staff were all very friendly and the food was delicious with quick service. If you're tempted by the desserts please do try one as they are amazing!

We went for dinner tonight, as we stay at a closeby farm for the night, and it was literally mesmerising. We are an Italian-Belgian couple visiting Northumbria, I used to live in Yorkshire but this is so far the best place I have ever had dinner in! We heard tonight the 17 yo sous chef was in charge, we wish he opened a restaurant in Brussels! :) we had a slow cooked beef pie and an apple crumble to die for (and my Irish aunt makes a very good one, the bar was high!). The atmosphere was very cozy and it allowed us to finish with a great experience a wonderful day after visiting Hadrian’s wall. A place you can’t miss ❤️

We have gone here each Easter Sunday for a family lunch. We have decided that after Sunday's experience, we will not be going back. The roast beef looked lovely but was inedible as it was so tough. I couldn't even cut through mine. Yorkshire pudding was good but that's where it ended. 2 tiny dishes of vegetables that are usually individual portions elsewhere, vegetables came out to serve a family of 8. Service was incredibly slow, we waited nearly 40 minutes for our starters and a further 30 for our main courses. It didn't seem as busy as last year either so not sure what the delay was. I hope they can do better going forward as it is a lovely little pub.
