Big Barns Cottage

Big Barns Cottage is a converted early 18th-century barn on the Sutherland Estate, redesigned in the 19th century to blend its original character with country-house comfort. The cottage comes as a complete, private space with its own entrance, sleeping four across two bedrooms—one double, one twin—with views toward the sea. Everything needed for a self-catering stay is provided: electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and wifi keep things straightforward.

Inside, the layout centres on a living room with a wood-burning stove and flagstone floors, a separate dining room, and a compact but thoroughly equipped kitchen. Two acres of mature private gardens surround the property, planted with rare species and enclosed woodland, giving direct access to forest walks and cycling routes. The beach lies within a short walk. One pet stays free of charge.

The location trades isolation for genuine Highland exploration: the Dornoch Firth faces south toward the Cairngorms, deer roam the grounds, and seals appear regularly at the shore. The property sits a mile down an unmade track from the main road, which keeps it quiet but means you'll need a car. No smoking inside. Check-in is after 15:00, departure before 10:00.
