What visitors say
We visited Speedwell Cavern on a very hot summer day, and it was the perfect activity. As soon as we went underground, it felt like natural air conditioning! It was around 10°C inside, which was such a refreshing break from the heat. It even reminded me of the air conditioning I miss from my home country and from the country where I lived for work for two years. The boat tour was fun, and the history of the cavern was fascinating. Our guide explained everything really well, and he had such a calm, soothing voice that made the tour even more enjoyable. Before we bought our tickets, the staff made sure to tell us that there are around 100 steps to go down into the cavern and then climb back up afterwards. I really appreciated this because it helps visitors, especially families with young children and older people, decide if they're comfortable with the stairs. It was a thoughtful safety measure. Going down the steps was easy enough, but climbing back up was surprisingly tiring! My legs definitely felt it by the end. There was plenty of parking available, which made our visit convenient. The toilets were clean and well maintained. the toilet charges is included with your ticket. We didn't find a baby changing facility, but we were still able to manage. The reasons I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that there isn't a great deal to see inside. -The boat ride is enjoyable, but there is only one main stopping point where the guide explains the history, so I expected a little more to explore visually. -One small suggestion would be for the gift shop. We planned to buy souvenirs after our boat tour, but by the time we returned, the shop had already closed. It would be great if the shop could stay open for another 10–15 minutes after the last boat returns so that the final visitors have a chance to browse and make a purchase. Overall, it was a unique and memorable experience, especially on a hot summer day. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the Peak District.

Me and the gals did this yesterday afternoon at 3.50. Pretty good tour to be fair costs 2pound cheaper to book online rather than in person. Had a great guy called Archie and we were lucky enough to have our own private tour as no one else wanted to join on. Thankfully that meant we didn’t have to hear about boring led but instead asked him some intresting questions, we just wanted to do something a bit odd and out of the ordinary which this fitted perfectly. One negative I have to say is Archie was wiping down the seats before we got into the boat but actually did a rubbish job as my friends arse was grim and smelly (not from pooing)

Superb, interesting, authentic visit to a historic mine. Our guide was extremely professional and friendly and brought the history very much alive for us. We felt privileged to have had a small insight into the difficult and dangerous world of 18th century mining (or any mining). It is worth bearing in mind the number of steps down to the boat (approximately 100) .

🌟 Speedwell Cavern – A Wonderful Underground Adventure! 🌟 Amazing... wow... wonderful! This place is truly one of a kind. It's hard to believe people created and worked in a place like this deep inside the earth. 🅿️ Parking• Limited parking spaces available, so arrive early.• Parking is £6 for 4 hours.• Speedwell Cavern ticket holders get discounted parking at £3.50 for 4 hours. 🚻 Toilets• Toilets are available.• Charge is 50p per use. 🍦 Food & Drinks• Only ice cream and a few refreshments are available at the shop.• Better to bring your own food and drinks if needed. 🎟️ Tickets• Adult ticket: £23.50 when booked online in advance.• Walk-in tickets: £25.• Pre-booking is advisable, especially during busy periods. What a wonder this place is! The cavern was originally mined for lead hundreds of years ago, and it's amazing to think about how miners worked underground with such limited tools. The highlight is the boat ride through the flooded mine passage deep beneath the hills. Floating through the dark underground water feels like entering another world. The guide shares the history of the mine and explains how the tunnels were created. 💧 Water constantly drips from the rocks, adding to the magical atmosphere. 🧥 It is quite cold inside, even on a warm day, so bring a jacket, especially if you are visiting with children. ⏱️ The guided tour lasts around 1 hour from start to finish. 🏞️ At the far end of the boat ride, you'll reach a huge natural cave chamber. Seeing this massive underground space is an unforgettable experience and makes you appreciate the beauty hidden beneath the Peak District. Overall, Speedwell Cavern is a fascinating mix of history, adventure, and natural beauty. Definitely worth a visit!
