About Sandy Cove Hotel

Sandy Cove Hotel sits on a wooded clifftop above Combe Martin Bay, a few miles east of Ilfracombe, with woodland paths and cliff steps leading down to its own private beach. The hotel has built a reputation for its food, holding an AA Rosette and appearing in the Michelin Guide, alongside a spa and thermal suite built around an indoor and outdoor pool.

Individually styled rooms make the most of the setting, with many looking straight out over the bay towards Exmoor, and the hotel is geared as much towards romantic breaks and special occasions as it is towards families and walkers exploring the coast path that runs close by.

The setting is genuinely secluded, reached down a private road off the coast road between Ilfracombe and Combe Martin, which adds to a sense of escape without putting either town far out of reach for a day trip.

Wow, where do we start? We got married at Sandy Cove Hotel on Saturday 1st August, and it was the most perfect day. We arrived early on the Friday, and many of our family members had also booked to stay at the hotel. It was the perfect way to start the weekend, and all the staff were so friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. We had booked dinner in the restaurant for 30 of us on Friday evening, and the food was absolutely delicious. A very special mention has to go to Sammie. We cannot thank you enough for all your help and support on Saturday. You were truly amazing and never stopped! You made sure everything ran so smoothly, allowing us to relax and enjoy every single moment. The hotel and venue looked immaculate and were decorated beautifully. Even though the hotel has a wedding every day for the next six weeks, it certainly didn’t feel that way. We were made to feel incredibly special, as though we were the only wedding there, and that meant so much to us. We truly have no words to express how grateful we are. We received so many compliments from our guests about what a fantastic day it was. The food was outstanding - we chose the roast, and several guests said it was the best wedding meal they had ever tasted! We also visited the spa on Sunday and, wow, it was beautiful. We can’t wait to return, and we’re really looking forward to the treatments being introduced in the future. We then enjoyed a cream tea in the afternoon, which was as delicious as ever, we often visit at weekends, and it never disappoints. We genuinely didn’t want to leave on Sunday and have already looked into booking another stay next year for our first wedding anniversary! Although we’re sure we’ll be back much sooner to enjoy the spa and the incredible food again. Thank you all once again. We simply don’t have the words to express how thankful we are. You made our wedding day everything we had dreamed of and more. It was absolutely perfect. With love, Mr & Mrs Ruhleman xxx

Attended a friends wedding at Sandy Cive hotel, stayed 2 nights. The rooms were first class, the restaurant was excellent as well as the bars. The Venue (the wedding facility) was amazing . Great outdoor deck kings for the ceremony with superb views over the cove below. The dining are was too draw and the staff were excellent. A good tim was had by all and nothing appeared to be an issue for the staff. The little flower girl was exhausted and went to sleep. The staff just put two sofas together so she she could sleep comfortably and safe. I woul highly recommend The Sandy Cove Hotel.

We honestly couldn’t have chosen a better wedding venue. The hotel room was beautiful, the spa was amazing, the food was incredible, and the views are absolutely stunning. Every member of staff was so friendly and helpful throughout our stay. A huge special mention to Sammie, our wedding coordinator, who went above and beyond to make our day as stress free as possible. When our registrar arrived 3 hours late, she was on the phone chasing them and keeping everything calm for us. She was also keeping a close eye on the weather and had both indoor and outdoor setups ready just in case it rained. Despite the stress, our day turned out perfectly thanks to the incredible team. We’re so grateful and would recommend this venue to anyone!

Stunning Venue Let Down by Poor Accommodation Maintenance The Highlights: A Dream Wedding SettingStunning Venue: The wedding venue itself is absolutely beautiful and provides an incredible backdrop for a special day.Excellent Catering: The food was fantastic throughout, both for the wedding day and during meals at the Cove Restaurant.Outstanding Staff: The customer service was exceptional, with attentive and helpful staff managing the event beautifully. Nice Prep Space: The bridal prep room is a nice space to get ready in, though it lacks natural light and feels a bit dark. The Lowlights: Tired Rooms and Zero Attention to Detail First Night Room: The room for the night before the wedding was very tired, with walls badly needing washing or repainting. While the toilet, sink, and shower were clean, the rest of the room was extremely dusty with visible cobwebs in the corners. Second Night Room: The second-night room was an improvement but still dusty, with uncomfortable pillows and basic bedding. At £250 a night, you are strictly paying for the view rather than luxury. Damaged Bridal Suite: Shockingly, the bridal suite had the body wash dispenser visibly ripped straight off the wall.Missing Bathroom Essentials: The bathrooms lack basic attention to detail, featuring no towel rails (only tiny heaters), no shelves in the shower, and no provided toiletries—all low-cost items that make a huge difference to a guest's stay. Important Considerations for Future GuestsAccessibility Issues: The venue is definitely not accessibility-friendly. They do the bare minimum to cater to guests with mobility issues. Strict Prep Room Rules: You must vacate the bridal prep room strictly by 12:00 PM. Management enforces this rigidly, even if there is no wedding scheduled the next day and your actual guest rooms are not yet ready. Final VerdictSandy Cove is an undeniably beautiful place to get married with great food and staff, but management is seriously letting the venue down by failing to invest in room maintenance.
