About The Flying Horse

Tucked behind a family-friendly pub in Ipswich, The Flying Horse offers something genuinely different: simple grass pitches on a secure CCTV-monitored field, with the bonus of a free taxi into town when you spend £40 at the bar. It's a proper budget option – no showers, and pub toilets close overnight – but the trade-off is unbeatable convenience. Free parking, a bus stop five minutes away, and wheelchair-accessible facilities make this an easy urban base.

The real draw for families is the entertainment: free soft play for under-fours each morning, an outdoor playground, and nearly always something happening in the pub come evening. Cavallo Volante Café opens from 9am for breakfast, then the pub serves food until 8pm with takeaway options. Dogs are welcome year-round and can stretch their legs in the adjacent field.

One firm rule: only drink what you buy on site. Break it and you're out, no refund. It keeps the atmosphere relaxed and the prices fair – a small ask for such a central, amenity-packed spot.

What visitors say

I already enjoy the various nights out here especially the karaoke but I had forgotten it's also a cafe in the day. Personally, the breakfast is divine, the atmosphere comfortable, the people welcoming. 😊

The Flying Horse is a friendly local pub with a welcoming atmosphere, good drinks, and helpful staff. It's a nice place to meet friends or relax, and I've always found the service to be pleasant. However, there is a serious issue outside the pub that needs attention. The pavement opposite the pub has become badly cracked and uneven, making it dangerous to walk on. It appears that repeated parking by heavy cars, large vans, and other vehicles on the pavement has caused significant damage over time. The broken and uneven surface is now a genuine trip hazard, particularly for elderly people, parents with pushchairs, wheelchair users, and anyone with mobility issues. It would be good to see action taken to prevent vehicles from parking on the pavement and for the damaged surface to be repaired before someone is injured. The pub itself is well worth a visit, but I hope the pavement issue is addressed as soon as possible to make the area safer for everyone.

Had a really good experience having breakfast here the food was really nice and cheap. bacon meaty and cooked nicely, server was kind and the whole atmosphere felt very homey. The place feels like a real community kind of place unfortunately I feel most people just don't take any notice even though it a hidden gem
