About The Old Priory

The Old Priory is a private guesthouse on Woodmarket in the centre of Kelso, run by owner Robin Girdwood in what he describes as his own home rather than a conventional hotel. The property offers a range of individually named rooms, from simple singles to larger suites, and has been a fixture of Kelso's accommodation scene for close to two decades, with a long-standing reputation as the town's best-reviewed guesthouse.

Rooms are furnished with multi-channel televisions, free wifi, hospitality trays and quality bedding, and a guest conservatory with underfloor heating provides a comfortable communal space to relax. The guesthouse has been recommended in the Lonely Planet and Rough Guide series for many years, and asks for a minimum two-night stay.

Its central Woodmarket position keeps the Square, the Abbey ruins and the town's restaurants within easy walking distance, and the informal, house-party atmosphere suits visitors who prefer a personal welcome over a more formal hotel setting.

We were only able to stay for one night but it was a memorable experience. Robin made us feel welcome from the minute that we arrived. The building is full of character and furnished with some beautiful period pieces. Our room was clean, comfortable and spacious. Robin cooks an excellent breakfast of your choice, which is served in a bright, cosy dining room. Robin is delightful and is happy to spend time answering any questions. A wonderful stay and hope to return again.

What a wonderful B&B The Old Priory is, we just spent 2 nights here and have booked again already. Where to start? Robin, is an amazing host, knowledgeable, friendly, a true gent who couldn’t have done more to make us feel welcome in his home… he also does fabulous breakfasts. The Old Priory itself is a gorgeous building full of original features that is tastefully decorated with beautiful furniture that compliments the age of the building. The pictures, ornaments and books all add to this lovely place and has been put together with taste and flair. The private garden and parking are an added surprise in the centre of Kelso and it was so lovely just to sit outside and relax. Looking forward to returning in a few weeks and highly recommend this B&B.

👍 Wonderful. We spent three days and had a great stay. Robin is a great host. The room was comfortable and the breakfast enjoyable. The Old prirory is centrally located in Kelso. Kelso itself is a excellent place to visit.

We had a very nice time staying at The Old Priory in Kelso Scotland. Robin went out of his way to help us out in accommodating us because my husband had fractured his ankle right before we left on our trip and no way would he be able to climb the stairs and Robin made it possible for us to be on the main floor. Thanks Robin! From Larry, Bev, Scott, and Carmine
