About Dale Head Hall Lakeside Hotel
The waters of Thirlmere and the fells around Helvellyn set the scene for Dale Head Hall Lakeside Hotel, a small property tucked into the Cumbrian countryside outside Keswick. With just 12 rooms across two floors, it has the feel of a family-run house rather than a large hotel, and the owners themselves are said to give the place its welcoming, homely character.
Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, and many look out over the garden, the lake or the surrounding mountains. Family and accessible rooms are available, along with drinks in room and room service for those who prefer not to stray far. Breakfast is served with those same views, and the restaurant and bar cater for meals through the day, with packed lunches available for walkers heading out onto the fells. Some rooms could do with a bit of updating, though this hasn't stopped the setting and atmosphere winning people over.
Outside there's a garden, picnic area and outdoor seating for making the most of the surroundings, and the hotel also serves as a wedding venue with its own bridal suite and meeting rooms. Walking and cycling routes lead straight from the grounds, fishing and watersports are within reach, and pubs and restaurants nearby offer further options when guests want to venture out. Free on-site parking is provided throughout.

5/5. Loved our stay here. Breakfast wasn’t too posh and in turn tasteless like others! It was excellent. Beds were clean and comfy. Room was clean, staff were excellent, always super helpful and really chatty. Downside was the wifi was poor and if you want to get a taxi for drinks in Keswick and stay here you must be prepared and pre book. Hotel has a bar which is very reasonably priced. Not a typical chain hotel, small family ran and we would be back without a second thought.

Travelling to Aspatria for work we spotted a sign for this hidden gem. We only had time to stop for a pot of tea. The gentleman who greeted us and served us was friendly and polite, the tea and biscuits were delicious and sensibly priced but what overwhelmed us was the incredible view and the perfect peace of the location. Coming from Cumbria originally and having spent countless weekends in the lakes I could not believe that somewhere new to me existed. I was so wrong, this place is breathtaking 😍.

We didnt even stay. We had booked the groom room via air b&b for the weekend, the teapot had mouldy tea and teabags in it, the cups and bowls were dirty, the kitchen floor was lifting, all the skylight seem to have issues with condensation/leakage which either are mouldy or have been badly repaired, the wifi only works by the window, and it was so cold inside. There were dirty marks all down the walls - i assume from the skylights, and there were massive cobwebs in the bedroom.

Just returned from a fabulous long weekend at this lovely place. Dale and the family go out of their way to make you feel welcome and nothing is too much trouble. The house and grounds are beautiful and well maintained without being overdone, creating a relaxed and calm environment for guests. All necessary facilities provided in the rooms, with Freeview TV and WiFi if you want to make use of them. The views are spectacular and the garden and grounds full of wildlife. Lovely walks through the garden and woods to the Lakeshore. No noise or light pollution. This is a haven for anyone who truly wants to get away from it all, but just a short distance from both Grasmere and Keswick for anything you might need. An absolute gem, loved every second and we will definitely be back soon.
