About The Lodge In The Vale

Rooms at The Lodge In The Vale are kept simple and practical: en-suite bathrooms, drinks available in the room, and showers with a decent bit of power behind them, paired with towels generous enough to actually wrap around you twice. It's not a place for frills, but everything works as it should, and the fourteen rooms are well looked after.

Downstairs there's a bar and a snack bar serving cakes and sandwiches worth stopping for, plus breakfast and packed lunches for those heading out for the day. A garden and outdoor seating area give space to sit outside, and there's a meeting room if needed. Staff are generally friendly and accommodating, though service can occasionally feel a little offhand. Free on-site parking and free WiFi are both included, and pets are welcome.

The location on Back Lane in Keswick puts guests within reach of walking and cycling routes, fishing, watersports, and nearby pubs, making it a straightforward base for exploring the Lake District's outdoor side. Luggage storage is available for those breaking up a longer trip.

Nice hotel, reasonably priced. Rooms are good size and clean, you get all you need. The only thing that would be useful is the small fridge in the family room. Could be helpful. Locations is good as it 10 mins drive from Keswick. Obviously you need a car as it’s in the middle of the field. Next to hotel there is a farm so you can see cows walking around 😊

Our room on the ground floor was tiny and grubby, the blind was so flimsy, not suitable for it's purpose, there was a large dent in the floor by the bathroom which had been taped over with brown tape. The TV signal was so bad it was impossible to follow a program. My Vodafone signal kept saying emergency calls only. Really appalling for the money they charge. The rest of the lodge was nice, continental breakfast was extra but ok. Pleasant staff. Won't be going back.

Rooms are very dated and tired. 'Beds' used as a loose term, are nothing but a paper thin mattress on a creaky wooden base! Shower is weaker than a typical Lake District downpour, better off taking some shower gel outside for a better wash during a downpour. Expect better from a £100 a night place, will not be returning. I've had comfier bed and nicer rooms in a £20 a night hostel.

Booked a two night stay but had transport issues (vehicle broke down 600 miles away from home so now option than to get towed), I sent 3 emails to cancel the booking through different email addresses and booking.com a week before we were due to stay but ended up being charged the full amount. Was hoping to rearrange the dates and stay in future but after the service received I won't be visiting.
