About Lake District Castle Inn
Lake District Castle Inn works best for families, groups and outdoor types who want fell walking by day and proper facilities to unwind in by evening. Set at Bassenthwaite near Keswick, it makes a practical base for exploring the surrounding scenery, with mountain views from the grounds and a garden and picnic area for taking the outdoors at a slower pace.
The 45 rooms are comfortable and roomier than you might expect from the outside, all en-suite, with family rooms and accessible rooms available, plus a bridal suite for those marrying at the on-site wedding venue. Staff are consistently helpful, and facilities run to an indoor pool, sauna, steam room and gym, along with a games room for rainy afternoons. A restaurant and bar cover breakfast, packed lunches and evening meals, though the kitchen doesn't always hit the same mark, and some areas of the building could do with sharper upkeep.
Beyond the hotel there's plenty to fill a stay: golf, fishing, horse riding and watersports are all nearby, along with walking routes straight from the door and further pubs and restaurants in the area. Free on-site parking and an electric vehicle charge point make it straightforward for drivers, and pets are welcome for those travelling with dogs.
What guests say
The room was very clean and had just been renovated, making it feel much more comfortable. The front desk staff were not particularly friendly and could improve their customer service. However, the restaurant staff provided excellent service and deserve recognition. The swimming pool, sauna, and jacuzzi facilities were excellent. I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends.

Lovely hotel in beautiful place with delicious food and exceptional rooms. Everywhere feels really clean and the hotel has a nice vibe to it. I want to give a special shout to (I think he said that was his name), Elliot, tall young man with short hair. He took extra care of us whenever we needed anything in the restaurants and was by far working the hardest. Very nice lady’s at reception. Thank you for fantastic time x

Beautiful setting especially the garden view from our bedroom was picture perfect. Staff were friendly and helpful. Although a bit limited in breakfast options available for the vegetarians. Strategically, it was well placed and only 5 minutes drive to the very peaceful Bassenthwaite lake and had a wildlife nature park nearby too. Very dog friendly which led to great unrest one night when all the dogs started to bark in response to each other!!! 😅

Our party of 3 arrived for a 2 night 'galentines' stay and we were smitten from the first interaction with the lovely lady on Reception (sorry we didn't get her name, dark hair, pony tail). So helpful and friendly throughout our stay. Similar interactions and great customer service from (Lee?) running the dining room day and night, what a worker! Just lovely. And Jamie on Reception too, thank you to all. The staff really should applauded and appreciated for being the main asset to this lovely place. The hotel is a home from home, beautiful spotlessly clean, comfortable room, beds, bathroom etc. Loved the pool and spa and compliments to the chef, we experienced 2 breakfasts and evening meals all of which were superb and good value for money. But for us the icing on the cake was the residents lounge with its relaxing atmosphere, comfy sofas, reading material and beautiful cosy log burner. We will all definitely be back. Book directly if you can because they always have great offers available and a price match policy. A totally hidden gem of a place in stunning surroundings. Thank you to all at Castle Inn 🙌🏆
