Just got back after a 2 night stay at Kiln Hill Barn, lovely place and the setting is stunning. The room, although described to me as small for 2 people and 2 large dogs, was absolutely fine and not at all lacking in space. Breakfast was really good and in a lovely dining space. Katrina is a great host and we are looking at returning again soon for a go in the self catering. Highly recommend the place

Stopped over Christmas week in Tao Lodge , not the best  of experiences The cottage was cold I had to go out and purchase a small heater to supplement the single radiator in the living room to make it comfortable in the evenings, all the stone walls feel cold to the touch. The left-hand wall in the single bedroom is physically wet in the far corner near the bed, causing the bedding to feel damp. There is definitely a damp problem there that needs attention before it turns into a serious mould problem. The end wall in the single room is also wet and has black mould around the socket and skirting, which is not healthy for guests at all as it's next to the head of the bed. I hazard to guess that either the guttering or downpipe outside are the cause of the problem, but I've not checked that. The hot water boiler was constantly cutting out whilst having showers and during washing up after meals and, at best, was only warm, not hot, we had to boil the kettle to wash up efficiently. The inside door to the fridge is badly rusted, so not very hygienic. On opening the extraction hood door to the cooker hood, we found lots of cobwebs. Someone is not checking the property before the new occupation very well after the cleaners have done their job.

Beautiful location, although the chalets are a bit of an eyesore. Unfortunately, KilnHill cottage was not clean. Cobwebs in pretty much every corner. And the little nook in the front room was festooned with them. The worst of them was behind the headboard. It was full of spider webs, and it's extremely disconcerting to try to sleep with a spiders hunting ground 6 inches from your face. Sorry but until the place is thoroughly cleaned I can't recommend it.

Has been upgraded since my last stay years ago. Seems to have pitches for only 3 outfits. Holiday lodges shaped like portacabins mar the view down to Bassenthwaite. OS map shows a path to this lake but it has been blocked off with new fencing and gates removed. There has been construction work on a pipeline, now finished which may have contributed to this. Site itself is immaculate but quite expensive for one caravanner.
