About Skiddaw Hotel

The Skiddaw Hotel takes its name from the mountain that dominates the skyline north of Keswick, though its own position is squarely in the middle of town on Main Street, within a short walk of every shop, pub and viewpoint in the centre. The building has been refurbished in recent years, giving it a smarter, more contemporary finish than some of its Victorian-era neighbours while keeping a traditional Lakeland facade.

Its 43 en-suite bedrooms include several larger family suites, and the hotel's Brasserie 31 restaurant serves a seasonal menu built around local produce, with a separate lounge bar offering a shorter menu including a hiker's picnic board for anyone heading straight out onto the fells. Free wifi runs throughout the building, and parking permits for the nearby car park are available for guests arriving by car.

Being on Main Street, the hotel is as central as it is possible to be in Keswick, a few minutes' walk from the market square and around five minutes' drive from Derwentwater.

May 2026 Ate in the bar on a quiet sunday night so staff were very sttentive. Nice wine....good choice of dishes....starters are quite large so take care if you are eating 3 courses...you may not make it to pudding! Got a tour of the hotel from the wonderful Aliana and saw a range of rooms from standard to prestige suite. The whole place has been recently refurbished to match their other sister hotels in the LDH portfolio and wow....what a job they have done.. Beautiful decor with every detail thought of The food was excellent and beautifully presented. 10/10

Only ever used the restaurant. We've visited about a dozen times now, food is lovely and reasonably priced. Very child friendly from newborn (breastfeeding safe space!) as well as very patient with a (now) toddler. Staffing and service is always a bit hit'n'miss, but maximum effort and it is clearly visible.

Would have given 5 stars but I just found them a wee bit too pricey - even for Keswick. Also, they don't take cash, as was swiftly pointed out to me as I enthusiastically took a bank note out of my wallet by someone who I thought might just have been looking down his nose at me for doing so. However, the pot of tea was delicious.

I've not stayed in the hotel but as a single female traveller I feel safe popping in for a drink or something to eat. Staff are really friendly. Would definitely recommend for other lone female travellers.
