About Royal Oak Keswick

The Royal Oak has stood on Keswick's Main Street for generations, one of several old coaching inns that give the town centre its solid, unfussy character. The bar downstairs keeps open fires, local ales and a menu of hearty pub food, while the bedrooms above are simply furnished but comfortable, aimed squarely at walkers and short-break visitors rather than anyone chasing luxury.

Its central position means guests can leave the car for the duration of their stay, walking to the market square, the lake shore or the bus station for day trips out into Borrowdale or along Bassenthwaite in a matter of minutes. Breakfast is served in the dining room each morning, and the inn's dog-friendly policy makes it a popular choice for anyone travelling with a four-legged walking companion.

It suits visitors after a straightforward, well-located base with a proper pub attached, rather than a country house experience out of town.

Cerys was amazing from when we first arrived and until we left the bar on our last night, she sorted us out when we arrived and talked us through the breakfast procedure, she was also on point when we wanted to take a last order upstairs to our room. Charlie was also amazing, was always happy to serve me and my wife a wine and a vodka once everyone else had left!! I was told he only served to residents at his transgressions. And he did!! Lovely guy!! The breakfast was in point!! And on our last night we had a table of 12 plus 2 babies and the food and service was excellent!! Kudos to everyone involved at the Royal Oak, we cannot wait to come back!! Regards, the Shivs!!! #loveyoucerys

Booked a last minute trip as a birthday treat for my husband. We took our small dog with us and the staff were so accommodating. He particularly enjoyed his sausage at breakfast time! Room was lovely and we love bath house products so that’s a bonus for us. We have stayed before and love how central the hotel is. We will definitely be back again soon!

Very nice rooms, though they aren't joking when they call it a "small" room. Great standard of finish but just so *very* small, barely enough room for our bags, ourselves and two dogs. Excellent breakfast and the rumours are true - good dogs also get a cooked breakfast. If you're looking for the "old school" inn experience but without all the damp and mould and lumpy mattress, this is for you. Smack in the middle of Keswick, everything else is walkable. Be sure to follow their advice for parking. Food is generally at high standard, had an exceptionally good Caesar salad (truly one of best ever).

Absolutely lovely pub right in the heart of Keswick. Staff really friendly and helpful. Amazing with dietary requirements - gluten free wasn’t a problem here. Breakfast was very filling - gluten free sausages & a sour dough like bread were a first for me. Evening meal was just perfect. If you like a steak, this is a must place to visit. Room was lovely and modern. Bathroom with the rain shower was just perfect. Complimentary chocolates & a muddy boots tray left outside your bedroom door.
