A traditional pub-hotel on Keswick's Main Street, close to the fells and Derwentwater, known for hearty pub food and a warm bar.

About The Kings Arms Hotel

Main Street in Keswick sits within easy reach of the surrounding fells and Derwentwater, and The Kings Arms Hotel makes the most of that position as a long-standing base for walkers and visitors to the Lake District. It's the sort of place where the bar hums in the evenings and the front door opens straight onto the town's shops and cafes.

Rooms are en-suite and come with the practical extras that make a stay easy: room service, drinks available in the room, and packed lunches for those heading out onto the fells. Breakfast is served each morning, and the restaurant and bar are the heart of the place, turning out generous pub classics such as pies and a giant Yorkshire pudding with a choice of fillings, along with gluten-free options for those who need them. The dining room has a cosy, sociable feel, staff are attentive, and the restrooms are kept spotless, though the food has been known to feel a touch pricey for what it is.

Beyond the hotel, Keswick offers walking and cycling country on the doorstep, along with golf, fishing and watersports nearby, plus a good spread of pubs and restaurants within walking distance. Pets are welcome, and with 24-hour reception, free WiFi and laundry service on hand, it suits both a short stopover and a longer stay exploring the area.

This is a great place to stay. The staff are amazing and helpful. There is a large carpark at the rear a short walk away. We did pay then realised that you can get a permit from the hotel. The location is in the centre of the town which is what we wanted, lively in the evenings. The food was well above what we expected and the breakfasts was amazing too. We'll definitely be back.

We visited for a light lunch on a Saturday. The bar staff are welcoming and friendly and suggested where we could sit. The ambience is pleasant, relaxed and well designed lending to a cosy atmosphere. We had two toasted sandwiches, one home cooked Cumbrian ham and mature cheddar cheese and one mature cheddar cheese, tomato and basil pesto, both on brown bread and served with a side salad and fries for £9.50 each. They were both generously portioned, well executed and delicious. The ham in one toastie was clearly a quality meat as opposed to processed. The salad was fresh and had a nice dressing and the fries were light and just enough for the dish. For the price this represented great value for money and the menu is varied with something for everyone. This is one of the nicer bars/places to lunch in Keswick and as we visit regularly, we will return.

Went to the kings arms on the off chance see it had a been garden so sat for a drink in the sun, we asked if they had any rooms available the staff were very helpful and friendly, it was cheaper to book direct then on booking.com we paid £119 for 1 night in a double with bed & breakfast, the room had a fan in which was a nice touch as the weather was roasting, the only badish thing i would say is the shower door opening isnt very big if some one of a larger size was trying to get in and out they would fine it hard. Over than that all good breakfast was lovely, the location on the hotel right in the middle of the town great for having a drink out side and just watching the world go buy.

I made my first visit here between Christmas (2025) and New Year after a busy afternoon around Keswick. I was keen on getting warmed up with a cuppa and a dessert. It was standing room only in the bar to start with, but in due course I got a seat and a table, which I happily shared with others. I had several pots of a fabulous Earl Grey tea and ordered a Sticky Toffee pudding with ice cream. It took around 2 hours for my dessert with it being so busy. I check with staff to see if I should cancel my food as I was running out of time on my parking. I was reassured and enjoyed my pudding before dashing for the car park. It was a very busy yet friendly bar. If I were to go again I'd book a table for food. Parking can be tricky in Keswick, there is some public transport. It's always busy, even off season. The toilets were kept well.
