Kirkwall, Orkney's main town, is a good base for exploring the islands, with its harbour, shops and easy access to the airport, and Heatherlea offers a simple bed and breakfast option right in the middle of it on Weyland Terrace.

Absolutely the gold standard of what an B&B should be! I had read the reviews and this being my ninth B&B on a month long trip through Ireland and Scotland I took it with a grain of salt. Everything about the room, facilities and Debbie, my hostess exceeded my expectations. Debbie really puts so much effort into making sure you have everything you need for comfort. If you are fortunate enough to reserve a room here you’ll be delighted. I’m sure of it.

I stayed here in August 2025. The service was outstanding. The hosts were friendly and very helpful. Warm and comfortable room. A delicious home cooked breakfast. The location is right in Kirkwall. Only about 10 minutes walk to the main shopping area. If I return this will be top of my list to stay. The only proviso I have is that the stairs would be quite a challenge for the very old or handicapped.

The best B&B I have ever stayed in! The host is so gracious and accommodating - anticipating guest needs before they know they have them. Delicious breakfast. Very clean, comfortable bed, nice extras like a refrigerator in the room with small bottle of milk, robes and slippers, plenty of towels, an iron board and drying rack, suitcase rack. Parking for 5 cars. Electric car charger. Location is about a 5 to 10 minute walk to central Kirkwall. Upstairs rooms have view of harbor. Would definitely stay here again!

Honestly, I felt right at home staying here. It’s less than a 10 minute walk from Kirkwall, local shops and as well as the harbour. I thank Debbie for her lovely hospitality, the breakfast was delicious, especially the tattie scone. I would love to stay again one day in the future.
