About The Daffodil Hotel & Spa

The Daffodil sits on the eastern side of Grasmere, on the site of a Victorian hotel that was rebuilt and reopened as a modern four-star property. The result is unusual for the Lake District: a contemporary building with large windows, clean lines and a layout designed around the view rather than a period house adapted to it. Reactions to the architecture are mixed, but the rooms and facilities are unambiguously modern.

Bedrooms range from standard doubles through to lake-view rooms and suites, with the higher grades getting balconies or terraces facing across the water. Interiors use neutral tones with Lakeland stone and timber accents, and the beds and bathrooms are of a consistently high standard. Family rooms and interconnecting options are available, which is less common in this part of the park.

The spa is the main point of difference locally: a treatment suite with a range of therapies, plus relaxation facilities, and it makes the hotel a viable choice in poor weather. The bistro and bar look out over the lake and serve modern British cooking with Cumbrian ingredients, and there is a lounge and terrace for drinks.

Grasmere village is a five-minute walk, which puts Sarah Nelson's gingerbread shop, Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum on the doorstep, along with the start of walks up Helm Crag and around Rydal Water. Parking is on site, which is a real benefit in a village where public spaces fill early. It suits couples, spa-minded guests and families wanting comfort over character. Prices are moderate to high, with clear savings midweek and outside school holidays.

We stayed for 4 nights in a superior lake room which had an amazing view. The staff were very friendly and attentive the entire time. The spa was small but adequate for an hour after walking. I had a massage which was great. Breakfast buffet was good. We only had one dinner in the hotel which was superb. Definitely recommend

Set in an idyllic location on Grasmere lake and within easy walking distance of the village of Grasmere which is lovely. Staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful. The restaurant had a varied dinner menu and serve excellent quality food, beautifully presented. Good wine selection too. Room was spacious and well appointed but could have been cleaner - dead spiders and flies on window sills, window frames and in corners of the room.

I booked the afternoon Spa and Tea for my wife’s surprise birthday gift. We can a lovely time and came away feeling soooo chilled. The pool was perfect for that time of day 10-1pm as there was not really many people. So felt quite exclusive. Sauna and steam room near the pool too. Misses had a facial (she’s still going on about it now) and then we went upstairs for the afternoon tea. Absolutely lovely. I’m a big eater and it was just the right amount of food for us. Left there at 230pm on no hurry. So overall a lovely way to spend a few hours. Total for 3 hour spa with facial and afternoon tea came to £165. Which I think was a fair price for two people on a special occasion. Thank you to all the staff for being so friendly.

Where do I even start with this. Perfect weekend away for our anniversary. Topped off with my now fiancée saying yes 💍 Massive thank you to all the staff who helped me plan and execute my proposal using the gazebo. From Becca the events lady, who was able to show my photographer around the hotel pre proposal and set a few things in stone behind the scenes, to the gent on reception for keeping the ring for me to collect and the amazing guy with the nice big beard in the restaurant for his amazing acting for telling us the hotel had a surprise for us downstairs after our anniversary meal. This then led us to the pre decorated gazebo for the proposal. The rooms were very spacious and clean. Shower pressure was great! Bed comfy. Amazing view from the room. I left a note to say it was our anniversary and we were greeted with an anniversary card and chocolates when we checked in to the room. Breakfast good with plenty of options and nice menu to order fresh items straight from the kitchen. Evening/anniversary meal for us was great. Extremely tasty food and excellent service. Planned to use the spa but didn’t have chance due to having other plans throughout the day. Managed to have a quick look round it and spoke to a couple of other guests and they said they loved it. Overall couldn’t fault anything over the weekend. Certainly one we will never ever forget anyway ❤️
