What visitors say
This is a really lovely spot. We went here for the great British food festival and it was an amazing venue for it. Has a huge grounds and the garden is something special. Really well maintained and spectacular views. The actual good festival was pretty big. Lots of food vendors, craft fairs, how to cook tutorials. They had two main stages for music, bars and a fair ground for kids. Very child friendly place as all on its own site. Has its own car park. Have potential disabled access via golf carts but probably need to let them know. Was deffo an option though. The museum is a beautiful building with lots of history and people to ask questions to. Think disabled access is a bit more of an issue here but still possible. Toilets on site and has a devoted carpark Really good venue for the festival

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had a lovely family day out at Harewood House during the Bugs & Beasties event. There was plenty for the children to do, from trails and crafts to exploring the beautiful grounds. The ferry ride was the highlight for us, and the playground was a big hit too. Great food options, lots of picnic space, and a really family-friendly atmosphere. We’d definitely recommend it for a family day out in Yorkshire.

My second visit to Harewood House. I found out at the gate that it’s no longer included in Historic Houses membership, which was an unwelcome surprise and immediately set the tone. For a hot, sunny day, the estate was remarkably quiet — not in a serene, exclusive way, but in a “people may have done the maths and stayed home” way. To their credit, the staff were as polite and professional as ever, which is consistently one of Harewood’s strengths. Inside, the house was dressed with extra floral displays, which from a personal perspective tipped the whole thing into full chintz overload. Instead of enhancing the already impressive interiors — the Adam ceilings, the Chippendale pieces, the architectural clarity — the additions felt tacky, distracting from the genuine historic beauty rather than complementing it. It was like putting costume jewellery on a Gainsborough portrait. The café didn’t help the mood. A dry scone in a paper box at a premium price is not the kind of heritage experience anyone is hoping for. What I had genuinely been looking forward to was the Himalayan Garden — the one part of the estate that feels truly distinctive. Unfortunately, it was closed. For me, that was the biggest disappointment of the day. Harewood House is beautiful, but increasingly overpriced for what’s actually accessible and enjoyable on the day. When the highlight ends up being the politeness of the staff, something in the value equation isn’t quite right.

Fantastic place to visit - lots of parking near the house and very accessible. All the staff were tremendously helpful and went out of their way to assist me with my mobility problems. I had hired a tramper in advance and this was brought to me quickly. This enabled me to access most of the stunning grounds and gardens including the lakeside paths which were down a fairly steep slope. The house itself is fantastic with lots of historical artefacts and artwork. Volunteers are posted in various locations and they all have an amazing knowledge of what's there. They are all really helpful and willing to give insights on the displays and answer any questions. Definitely a great addition to the visitor experience. There is also a great cafe in the courtyard with a wide range of food and snacks. Highly recommended for a visit if you are in the Leeds area.
