Small 8-room hotel on Horseshoe Pass Road, Llangollen, known for its Sunday carvery and hearty breakfasts with Dee Valley views.
About Abbey Grange Hotel
A Sunday carvery with a loyal following is the main draw at Abbey Grange Hotel, on Horseshoe Pass Road just outside Llangollen. The restaurant and bar are the heart of the place, backed up by breakfasts that guests tend to single out, and there's a garden with outdoor seating for taking in the mountain views over a drink.
The hotel has 8 rooms across two floors, all en-suite, with family rooms available and drinks provided in-room. Some rooms show their age and could do with updating, so this is a place better suited to those prioritising food and location over polished decor. Free WiFi, a lift, and free on-site parking round out the practical side, along with meeting rooms and business services for those travelling for work.
Llangollen and the Dee Valley are on the doorstep, with walking and cycling country nearby, plus golf, fishing and watersports within easy reach. Further pubs and restaurants sit close by too, and pets are welcome for those travelling with dogs.
What guests say
Short notice booking at £115 for a night. £5 cheaper than a lovely pub in the nearby town. No staff in the hotel at all. Keys left at reception. It smelt awful, like a musty old house. The room was gross with really old dirty carpet and everything hand painted gold. The only window had no handle and was seized open. The bathroom was pure 1970's with the tiles painted over by hand. I turned on the cold tap and it ran with a rusty hue. In fairness the sheets and pillow cases were clean. The matress swallowed you into its aged springs and the whole bed creaked loudly every time I moved. There were two beds and little to choose between them. My room was next to the fire escape which would never pass any inspection as it was ill fitting with light visible around it. Outside was a children's play area, the fibreglass slide was old and delamination, the big round cozy swing had strands of wire exposed. (Very dangerous). I saw no one else from start to finish it was almost like someone was renting out a derelict hotel/bar without permission. Awful place, avoid at all cost.

Rooms are clean and well kept and has a good view at the front but there is a farm at the back that can be noisy if your room is at the back. Also although ticketmaster map shows the hotel is close to Llangollen pavilion , it is just over 2 miles away so you do need to drive there, but easy to get there.

DO NOT EAT HERE! 10 of us visited for lunch. We waited over an hour for the meals to arrive. The gammon was as thin as piece of paper, the 2 pies were microwaved with soggy pastry! The 2 mac and cheese dishes were shop bought packaged microwave ones. To top it off we ordered a T-Bone steak rare, it arrived well done! The only thing this place did well LOL. There were 2 customers outside who said that we shouldn't have eaten here also! The managers attitude was disgusting! DO NOT VISIT

Holidaying nearby so popped in for drinks! The lady who served us was very kind and we had a nice chat. I used the toilets and they were all clean, tidy and in good working order. Our little girl enjoyed the park very much so. Great location and the scenery is outstanding x
