About The Chainbridge Hotel

The Chainbridge Hotel sits directly on the bank of the River Dee at Berwyn, close to the historic Chain Bridge and the Llangollen Railway's Berwyn halt, a short drive or a pleasant riverside walk from Llangollen town centre. The hotel takes its name from the bridge itself, and many of its 33 rooms and its restaurant look straight out over the water.

The hotel's riverside terrace is a popular spot for a drink or a meal in fine weather, taking advantage of one of the best river views of any hotel in the valley, and the building's position beside the railway line means steam trains occasionally pass within sight of the terrace.

As a mid-range option with a genuinely distinctive setting, the Chainbridge suits visitors who want to be close to the river and the railway without paying town-centre prices, with Llangollen itself only a short journey away by car or on foot along the riverside path.

We stayed here for just one night at the beginning of our road trip around Wales. The hotel and its location are absolutely beautiful, and the morning walk to the nearby waterfalls was a wonderful bonus. The staff were friendly and welcoming, but unfortunately the service and overall comfort did not match the setting. The hotel feels quite neglected and would benefit from better management and maintenance. Despite this, it is still a memorable place to stay for a short visit because of its stunning surroundings.

We stayed for 1 night. The staff were friendly and helpful. Room was very spacious with a huge balcony and river flowing right under the window. Room also had a fan which was very welcome as it was quite warm outside during our stay. There are lovely walks nearby and horse drawn boats just outside the hotel. Llangollen is also a short drive away. And they are dog friendly! If I was to pick on anything then... The pumps of the soap, shower gel and shampoo bottles were broken in the bathroom. And the contents are extremely watery. If you're looking for a modern hotel then this is not for you. It's old and has character. There is no lift in the building so people with mobility issues might struggle as one lady we saw did. And the breakfast was very basic and not much choice. But filled our bellies so that was ok. We did enjoy or stay so 5* from us.

I’ve never had an odder stay at a hotel in my entire life. We received a call the morning we were due to stay over to say that we were the only guests in the hotel that night and they would not be offering dinner services. Fine. We then receive a call that there is going to be nobody in the hotel with us that night, except for a night porter later on, and they were locking the front door. Weird, but fine. We arrive at the hotel, which is off of the narrowest road possible and the parking lot is just as narrow. They left absolutely no lights on for us and we could not see a thing. Not one single light. We were in pitch black and could hear water rushing on either side of the skinny, little parking lot. Someone was there to check us in and she was very nice. She told us that if we were going to leave the hotel that night that we’d have to leave through the back door and use a code to get back in. No, thank you. We couldn’t even see our hand in front of our own face. We were not leaving. My friend was trying to back the car into a parking spot and sideswiped a metal stairway that led to an upper parking lot. Because there was absolutely no lighting, the stairway was not visible. We dented our rental car. Great. Our room was fine. No complaints about that. I highly doubt that all the guests that were supposed to be there that night canceled leaving us the only ones there. So why even be open that night? If they didn’t want to deal with any guests, then they should have canceled our reservation because it was very apparent they did not want to deal with us. We did not feel safe leaving the hotel until the next morning when there was daylight. We should be refunded for this night. We were locked in the hotel and couldn’t see to get anywhere. Very poor reception and no care or concern for our stay.
