Wild Pheasant Hotel & Spa

A lovely, peaceful hotel a few minutes walk along the river from Langollen. We turned up on the day to be greeted by a very friendly and helpful receptionist, a room was available straight away for a fair price. We slept great, it was so quiet! I would definitely recommend and use again.

We booked this on the day of our stay, and after reading a few mixed reviews, we can confidently say we made the right choice. We had scoped out a few hotels in the town by popping in and having a nosey, and nothing compared to this - it was in a league of its own in comparison! From the moment we arrived, we received a lovely welcome and check-in was quick and easy. The hotel grounds are absolutely beautiful, with stunning mountain views, lush greenery, flowers, and trees everywhere. True to its name, there was even a wild pheasant roaming around the grounds, which was such a lovely touch. Our twin room exceeded expectations — very clean, modern, and comfortable. The beds were comfy, the shower room was modern, and we appreciated the little extras like bottled water, tea and coffee selection, biscuits, and a TV with Netflix. There was also plenty of storage space. Breakfast was excellent with a really good variety, from cereals, pastries, fruit, cheeses and meats, plus a cooked breakfast menu. My husband had the Full Welsh breakfast and I chose avocado on a muffin with a fried egg — both were delicious. My husband also used the spa facilities and was particularly impressed with the hydro pool. The location was great too. Although it looks slightly out of town compared to some hotels, it’s actually only a pleasant riverside walk into the centre, and being close to Aldi was really handy. Overall, we were so pleased we chose this hotel. It exceeded our expectations in so many ways and we wouldn’t hesitate to return. What a beautiful hotel! From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome by the fantastic staff. Our room was amazing and we genuinely couldn’t fault a single thing about our stay. We had a wonderful few days here, and the customer service was exceptional throughout. A special mention must go to Mel and Karen, who were both incredibly friendly, professional, and attentive. They are a real credit to the hotel. The room had a stunning view from the bedroom window, and the private patio area was the perfect place to relax in the evening with a bottle of wine and take in the surroundings. This truly is a magical hotel, and we thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our stay. We are already looking forward to returning in September. Highly recommended! Food and as great too.

Pro's - nice gardens, nice sized room, room was quiet (didn't use SPA as not included in the £250 1 night fee) Cons - now it was a heatwave, however, no flat sheet, thick quilt supplied in heatwave. Wasn't expecting aircon but not even a fan in the room. Window locks that could have been removed given the temperature only allowed windows to open 2 inches. We expected the room to be warm but these things just made it worse. No mini fridge in the room so water was just hot. Tap water was very cloudy. Breakfast - an extra £30 on top of the £250 already paid. Pretty dire, had the full Welsh. Cheap frozen hash brown, 1 cheap catering sausage that was burnt. 1/2 cheap salad tomato, 1 rasher of cheap bacon that snapped as so overcooked. The whole meal had been over salted also so the majority was left. A little fresh melon was provided which we had instead. Bar - the barman was friendly and a nice atmosphere. 1 bed and a double G&T was £20. Had 1 double scotch later on, £17. Make of it what you will. I've paid more in London and other Cities but not usually in a small village / town. Staff - there was a fire alarm activation at 11am as we were getting into bed. Two fire engines arrived. We waited outside for well over an hour, no communication from staff whatsoever who were in disarray and clearly untrained for such events. Another guest reported to the fire service that the sauna heater and steam room heater had failed to switch off (they could hear the noise in their room and reported it twice to reception who confirmed it should switch off at 9am but did nothing), which was the result of the fire alarm activation. No acknowledgement from reception staff in the morning of the issues, the guests before us raised the issue and we told, 'well it was an emergency'! Overall a poor stay, extremely overpriced in every way.
