About Amber Residence Hotel

Amber Residence Hotel occupies a Georgian townhouse at 42-44 Gloucester Place, its period façade giving way to straightforward, apartment-style rooms suited to both short breaks and longer stays in central London.

Rooms are bright and simply furnished, each with an en-suite bathroom and a kitchen, making it easy to put together your own meals rather than eat out every night. Free WiFi runs throughout, and practical extras include luggage storage, a laundry service, drinks available in the room, and concierge staff on hand for local advice and bookings.

The surrounding streets offer plenty to fill an evening, with pubs, bars, restaurants and other eateries all within easy reach, alongside nearby entertainment options. It's a no-frills base for exploring London, built around a genuinely characterful old townhouse rather than a purpose-built block.

We had a good time. Beds where ok and bathroom too. We didn’t used the little kitchen corner except the fridge. But everything was working. We got the password for the WiFi when we came and it also worked fine. I haven’t seen an elevator, so if you’re not friends with stairs, the upper floors might be not yours. Overall it definitely is worth an recommendation ❣️

We booked a room at Amber Residence Hotel through Revolut. During the booking process we had the option to choose between a “lower floor” room or a regular room for a slightly higher price. We intentionally paid the extra amount to get a standard upper-floor room. However, upon arrival we were taken to a lower-floor room in the basement area, technically below street level (although it had windows looking into a small trench around the building). At the time, due to the excitement of the trip and because we had booked about a month earlier, it didn’t immediately occur to us that we had paid for a different room category. We also had to rush out shortly after arrival. Only the next day did we realize that we had not received the room type we had paid for. By then it was difficult to address the issue on site, as the reception operates only during a limited time window, and we did not want to create unnecessary complications by calling the caretaker. The day after returning home, I sent a polite email to the hotel asking about the situation, but unfortunately received no response at all. I later tried to contact them through Revolut as well, but the hotel dismissed the claim, saying that the issue had been reported after departure. The room itself was spacious and fairly well equipped, but there were several small issues that added to the disappointment. For example, we had to ask for a hairdryer separately, which seems like a basic amenity. A bathroom floor mat only appeared on the second day during cleaning, and there was no “Do Not Disturb” sign in the room, so avoiding daily housekeeping wasn’t really possible. The bed was quite soft, and one of the mattresses was noticeably worn. Overall, despite the relatively good location and the size of the room, the way the complaint was handled — the lack of response and the unwillingness to acknowledge the issue — left a very negative impression. Because of this experience, I would not return and unfortunately cannot recommend the property.

This is a gem! It's clean, comfortable, quiet, and in one of London's nicest neighbourhoods, with everything you need within walking distance. The were very accommodating when I had messed up the dates of my visit. I will definitely go there again.

I was also taken to the basement room but found it to be clean, comfortable and spacious which is a rarity. Good service as well. I paid the same as I had previously at a hostel and therefore expectations were exceeded
