About City Inn Russell Square

Bloomsbury's leafy squares and literary streets surround Tavistock Place, where City Inn Russell Square offers a small, straightforward base for exploring central London. With just 10 rooms, it has the feel of a modest guesthouse rather than a large hotel, and its position near Russell Square puts transport links and cultural attractions within easy reach.

Rooms are en-suite and come with free WiFi, and there's a garden on site along with luggage storage for guests arriving early or leaving late. The hotel doesn't run its own restaurant or bar, but pubs, restaurants and other eateries are all close by, so guests have plenty of choice for eating out without having to travel far.

Feedback on the property has been mixed, with a rating of 3.2 from 140 reviews suggesting a stay here is more about location and value than luxury. It suits visitors who want an unfussy place to sleep within walking distance of Bloomsbury's museums, squares and the wider pull of central London.

We stayed last night for an event in the city. It was hot weather, but the room had two large windows and a large fan. There was also a fridge, Nespresso machine with pods & tea-making facilities. The bed was comfortable and the shower had plenty of hot water. There was road noise at night and only one per pillow per person, but otherwise a very good stay.

The location is convenient, but the rooms are extremely small and feel quite cramped, especially if you have luggage. It’s manageable for a very short stay, but comfort is limited. Overall, acceptable but below expectations for the price.

It was supposed to be a 3-star hotel, but the experience was more like a 1 or 2-star hotel. It is an original building that has been converted into a hotel. The service was adequate and we had no problems accessing the room (it's self-check-in), but the room was very run down, especially the bathroom. The best thing was the location. Personally, for a little more money, you can go to a real, better hotel. That's what I'll do on my next visit to London.

They don’t have 24 hour front desk (only works until 5pm and send you a letter in advance. The letter does not specify how to check in early e.g. code. So if your flight gets delayed and you arrive at the hotel there will not be anyone to get you in. They don’t pick up the phone. We ended up paying and then had to walk around with suitcases and look for a different hotel at 2am. You won’t get a refund from them. Booked with Expedia, tried but no dice. So waisted 200 pounds. On the outside it doesn’t look great either.
