About Gainsborough Hotel
Breakfast is included at the Gainsborough Hotel, a straightforward base for exploring London from Queensberry Place. There's no need to venture far for other meals either, with a pub and a handful of restaurants and eateries within easy walking distance for lunch or dinner.
The hotel has 48 rooms, all en-suite, with the option of family rooms for those travelling with children. Rooms are well kept and comfortably furnished, though some are on the compact side and the showers can be tight, so it's worth bearing that in mind if space matters to you. A lift serves the building, and practical extras include free WiFi, drinks available in the room, luggage storage and a laundry service, plus meeting rooms for anyone combining the stay with work.
Staff are noted for being helpful and the overall value for money is a strong point. West Brompton lies around 1.31 miles away, and Windsor Great Park is mentioned as a point of interest further afield for those wanting a day out beyond the city itself.
What guests say
A pleasant stay with a good breakfast. The room was comfortable and the hotel was a nice place to stay. The location is excellent, just a 3–4 minute walk from South Kensington Underground Station. The price for one person was also reasonable for central London. Breakfast is served at the hotel across the street and was very good, with a good variety of options. The same selection is available each day, but there is enough choice, and the bread was especially tasty. The only thing to keep in mind is that the shower cabin is quite small, even for one person, so there is not much space to move freely. Apart from that, I had a very good experience and would be happy to stay here again.

The Gainsborough is a little gem in South Kensington. Great location across from the Natural History Museum and a short walk from the tube and numerous restaurants. The rooms are clean and comfortable --not huge but more than adequate. And most important they are air conditioned. The staff is helpful, and the rooms are reasonably priced. I will definitely stay there again.

From the moment I arrived, the hotel was warm, welcoming and beautifully presented. The rooms were comfortable, the facilities excellent, and the overall atmosphere made for a thoroughly enjoyable stay. What truly made the experience exceptional, however, was Himanshu. When I encountered an issue with my original room, he dealt with it with genuine warmth, professionalism and efficiency. He listened, took ownership immediately, and arranged for me to move to another room without any fuss, turning what could have been a disappointing situation into a completely positive experience. Himanshu is a real credit to the hotel. His calm, caring approach and commitment to delivering exceptional customer service made all the difference to my stay. It’s rare to come across someone who makes guests feel so genuinely valued. Thank you, Himanshu, for going above and beyond. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again, and I hope your excellent service receives the recognition it deserves.

My daughter and I stayed for four nights as we toured uni. The hotel was clean and continually cleaned over our stay. Our room was on the bottom floor and although a bit of a maze to find the room, it was quiet and comfortable. We hardly spent time in the room as there is so much to do in London. The location is fantastic - the road is quiet, yet the Tube is a short walk away as are several beautiful side streets with all sorts of eating options. We did not utilize the breakfast option across the street. Museums are nearby and are FREE. Kensington Gardens was almost a nightly event of people watching and relaxation. The hotel staff took care of holding our bags before our check in time and were kind and accommodating. Highly recommend.
