About London Budget Maisonette
Chamberlain House is a plain residential block in East London, converted to offer simple maisonette-style accommodation for travellers wanting a bed near the City rather than a full-service hotel. It's a functional base rather than a characterful one, aimed squarely at guests prioritising location and price over polish.
Rooms are basic, with breakfast included and free WiFi throughout, plus a 24 hour reception for late arrivals or early starts. Don't expect an on-site restaurant or bar - there's no formal dining beyond breakfast - but pubs, restaurants and other eateries are all close by, so evening meals are easy to find within a short walk. Facilities are limited, which keeps costs down but means this suits guests who plan to spend their time out and about rather than lounging on-site.
The setting is the main draw: Tower of London and Aldgate are both nearby, putting East London's sights, transport links and entertainment within easy reach. It's a straightforward, affordable option for anyone wanting to explore the capital without paying for extras they won't use.
What guests say
A terrible experience. I made my reservation on booking and it ended up being almost a scam. The description and the pictures on the website are misleading. Hot and smelly rooms, no staff, no sign showing the entrance, the breakfast is nowhere near a “continental breakfast” and it is all wrapped up on big feeling of unsafeness. Please do not book.

The rooms are very small, there's no soundproofing at all; you can hear every rustle. Doors always close and open with a bang. The area is populated by Arabs, Muslims, and other non-Slavic nationalities!

A great place to live if you want to visit London without spending your budget on a hotel. Everything was fresh and clean. No problems. Short walk to Shadwell station. Just know that you are living in a bedroom in an apartment. The other bedrooms are let in the same way. The amenities are shared. My son and I had a great stay and will come back if we go back to London together.

+: The location of the accommodation is good, it is 15-20 minutes far from the center. The breakfast was included in the price (cereal, coffee, milk, biscuits). -: First of all, when we arrived, the bed sheet wasnt clean, it was just sprayed with perfume. We hoped to receive clean bed linen if we were staying for 6 nights. Second, there was dust and dirt everywhere. There was mould on the wall above the window. Another bad thing is the bathroom. We shared it with another 5 people. It was dusty too, and there were no waterpreassure when you showered. So it was difficult to clean ourselves. Sometimes if someone flushed the toilet there was 50% chance that the water started to flow endlessly. The walls are very thin. The floor beneath the carpet, and the stairs were cracking. So from the bed, we could hear tenants walking and talking in the apartment. On the upstairs, there was whole floorcarpet.
