My experience began like I had booked at Fawlty Towers. Good early check in then I left my bag till the room was ready. When finally I entered my room the big surprise... No AC at all. The room was hot and humid with no chance either to open the window apart from a bit slice. So why a four stars average evaluation? That is that's to their manager Christian who took in charge the problem, was very professional and kind, and granted a change of room since the following day and a saving in the price. This kind of problems unfortunately happens in this hot seasons and when the hotel is fully booked the only value you can find is a professional staff and that is what I found. Apart for that inconvenience the hotel is good, great location and good services. I did non give 5 stars as some improvement in the building and rooms is needed. Also the breakfast was good but not so various and excellent. In any case, as general evaluation, after all, it had been a good experience and I recommend it if you search for a pale in the city near to transports and the center.

I am writing this review following a highly disruptive stay on 19th–20th June 2026, which resulted in an injury, a hospital visit, and a disappointing lack of accountability from hotel management. At 11:30 PM, my friend who I was staying with went to use the shower. The silver drain cover, located in the centre of the shower, was not secured to the floor. When she stood on it, the plate slipped into the corner of the shower basin, causing her foot to drop instantly into the exposed drain cavity. This caused her to fall out of the shower door with her foot trapped in the drain. The in-room phone would not connect to reception, and when I called from my mobile phone, the line was left ringing for five minutes without an answer. I had to leave my injured friend to go down to the front desk in person to request ice. Following advice from NHS 111 we had to attend A&E. While staff provided a wheelchair to the front of the hotel, they did not offer to help arrange transport, leaving us to coordinate our own travel and spend £40 on round-trip taxis. We did not get back to the hotel until 4:00 AM. The following morning at breakfast staff watched my friend struggle down a flight of stairs on crutches, only mentioning that a lift was available after she had already navigated them. The subsequent correspondence with the Operations Manager has been entirely unsatisfactory. He initially attempted to deflect the issue by noting the "presence of an anti-slip mat" - my friend is a 24 year old able bodies person and would not expect to require a non-slip matt to shower. Despite a documented maintenance failure, failed communication systems, and out-of-pocket medical and transport expenses, the hotel's only offer of compensation was a 20% discount on a future stay. As a long-term guest who frequently stays at Montcalm properties for business and personal travel, I am disappointed in this outcome. The infrastructure in this room was hazardous, and the management's handling of the situation has been completely inadequate.

Location in Chiswell St is great? Service excellent, room was large with usual amenities but being an old brewery building the decor is old fashioned. Comfortable bed. Paying car park near by

Check-in at 3pm, took till 3:45 to get a room along with multiple other people who are trying to check in as well. Everything else was fine rooms were decent, breakfast was pretty good and staff are great. Check-in process requires improvement.
