About Princess Hotel
King's Cross and Bloomsbury are among London's best-connected corners, within easy reach of major train stations, and it's here on Argyle Street that the Princess Hotel offers a straightforward base for exploring the capital. The 31-room hotel is aimed at travellers who want a convenient location without paying central London prices.
Rooms are kept clean and comfortable, with some including a sink and kettle, though a number of rooms share bathroom facilities rather than having their own, which is worth bearing in mind when booking. There's a restaurant and bar on site, breakfast is served, and free WiFi is available throughout. Practical extras include a lift, luggage storage, laundry service, porter and concierge services, and free on-site parking, which is a genuine advantage in this part of London.
A garden offers a bit of outdoor space, and the hotel also functions as a wedding venue. Staff are noted for being friendly and helpful, which counts for a lot given the hotel's no-frills approach. Pubs, restaurants and other eateries are all within easy reach nearby, making it easy to eat out even on a tight budget.
What guests say
I strongly advise future guests to be extremely cautious when booking this hotel. Our reservation was canceled on the very day of our arrival, after we had endured a very long and exhausting flight. When we arrived at the hotel, tired, carrying our luggage, and standing in the rain, we were informed that our reservation had supposedly been canceled due to a problem with our credit card. This explanation made absolutely no sense, as our booking clearly stated that payment would be made directly at the hotel. It felt like the hotel was trying to cover up what was most likely an overbooking situation instead of being honest with us. To make matters even worse, we later received a notification claiming that the cancellation was due to "natural disasters," which is completely absurd and contradicts the explanation we were given in person. The hotel's response to this situation was unacceptable. Rather than helping us find alternative accommodation or taking responsibility for their mistake, they simply offered us Wi-Fi and coffee so that we could search for another hotel ourselves. We were left stranded, exhausted, stressed, and completely unsupported. This level of dishonesty, lack of professionalism, and disregard for guests is shocking. Canceling a reservation upon arrival and providing inconsistent and misleading explanations is not how any reputable hotel should operate. We are absolutely furious with how we were treated and would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Future guests should be aware that their reservation may not be honored, even after they have traveled long distances and arrived expecting to check in.
