About The Wellington Hotel
Anyone arriving into London by rail, or keen to be within easy reach of the South Bank without paying West End prices, will find The Wellington Hotel a practical base. It occupies a position on Waterloo Road directly across from Waterloo Station, making it especially suited to short breaks, early departures or trips built around train travel.
The hotel has 25 rooms, generally kept clean and well-equipped, giving guests a comfortable place to return to after a day of sightseeing. There's a restaurant and bar on site, along with breakfast that has become something of a highlight, plus free WiFi, 24 hour reception and luggage storage for those working around odd train times. Free on-site parking is also available, which is a genuine rarity this close to central London. Staff are generally friendly and helpful, though service is not always entirely consistent.
Beyond the station, the South Bank is within easy walking distance, and the immediate area has plenty of pubs, bars and restaurants for evenings out. It suits guests who want a straightforward, well-located stay rather than a destination hotel in its own right.
What guests say
I’ve happily been a patron of the Wellington for special occasions once every 2 years since 2020 - it is our ritual to watch England games there for the wonderful atmosphere. We never had any problems until the quarter final against Norway. The landlord / GM was extremely rude on a few previous occasions but this is when it all changed. Despite booking well in advance terms were changed — £10 entry suddenly thrown on the door. Then three days later for the semi final against Argentina, £20 entry, and a ludicrous ruling about having to turn up with your entire group at once despite a table of 8 obviously coming from different parts of town. Even Michelin starred restaurants don’t demand that. All of this is to say I’m frankly really upset and disappointed - for years this was a place of incredible memories for my friends and I. This summer, we got a gradual increase in hostility to the point where we’re unfortunately going to have to abandon it and look elsewhere. It has simply been made untenable. I ask management - what changed? I understand you may be within your rights to charge ad hoc for football games but the decrease in foot traffic you got for the games surely meant it wasn’t as profitable as previous fixtures. It just baffles me that somewhere can go from being uniquely atmospheric to downright hostile to its patrons in a space of weeks. I hope that this changes but can’t see it happening. Thanks for the memories, but this is goodbye.

We had a very good 2 night stay at this pub and hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the food in the pub is very good, and the location across the street from Waterloo Station couldn’t have been more convenient. We had a room on the first floor (2nd floor for those from the USA) and were not bothered by road or train noise at all. The room was a bit smaller than what I would have expected from a business hotel, but served our needs. We’d be happy to stay here again.

This is where I stayed for my night in London. It's a nice establishment and very close to Waterloo Station and main tourist attractions like The London Eye and Big Ben. If you require lift access this venue isn't for you to stay at as they only have stair access but it didn't put a dim on my stay. Down stairs in the pub area is fantastic and no lift access required to gain access.

I stayed at this hotel with my son and we had an excellent stay. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The room was cosy and very clean. The breakfast was excellent, with both a menu and a buffet. You can also have lunch or dinner at the pub, which has a great atmosphere. The location is perfect. We will definitely come back!
