About Travelodge London Central Southwark

Travelodge London Central Southwark suits travellers who want to be close to the action without spending a fortune on it. This is a straightforward, no-frills hotel for city breaks, weekend sightseeing or overnight stops before an early train, with 200 rooms spread across seven floors and rates that flex from budget to mid-range depending on when you book.

Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms and drinks on hand, and accessible rooms are available. Beds are a genuine strength, and staff are generally helpful, though some rooms show their age and noise can travel between floors, so it's worth packing earplugs if you're a light sleeper. There's a restaurant on site, a 24 hour reception for late arrivals, and the hotel welcomes pets, which is unusual for a central London stay.

The location is the main draw: Southwark tube station is close by, putting the London Eye and the rest of the South Bank within easy reach, and there's a Burger King nearby along with other pubs and restaurants for casual eating. Parking isn't available on site, but chargeable parking can be found a twelve-minute walk away at London Waterloo Station.

I wouldn’t choose to stay at a travel lodge again. The first night we were informed that they had overbooked the double rooms and were “upgrading” us for one night. The upgraded room, the bed was broken and the toilet door was damaged. The next day we had to leave our bags and had no access to a room from 10:00 to 15:30. The second room was basic- we didn’t expect anything fancy but the beds are so uncomfortable, they do have air con which is great but it’s really loud and woke me up constantly. You definitely need ear buds if you’re a light sleeper as even someone leaving their room throughout the night was enough to wake me up. The shower is a step into a bath which is fine except that there is no bath mat or anything you can place in the shower to make it less slippy and was a real hazard. Then our keys just stopped working and we had to again go to reception where we were offered a future nights stay for free which we didn’t take because we have no intention of staying with travel lodge again. The location is fine- although next to a railway line so also loud. The service was also fine though frustrating it was overbooked and then made to be our problem. Overall if we had to pick here or a premier inn we will always choose the latter as at least the beds are comfortable. Really disappointed.

The rooms unfortunately weren’t very clean. We found wrappers underneath the beds, large spots on the walls, and hair throughout the shower. It’s definitely not somewhere you’d want to walk around barefoot. The shower floors are extremely slippery, and the curtains don’t reach the bottom, which results in puddles all over the bathroom floor every time the shower is used. The employees were hit or miss. Some were very friendly and helpful, while others were unapproachable and not particularly welcoming. The breakfast was also extremely overpriced and, unfortunately, not very good. You’re better off going to the Pret next door. Overall, there were some positives, but the cleanliness, bathroom setup, inconsistent service, and overpriced breakfast made the stay less enjoyable than we had hoped.

I have a lot to say about this hotel…. The rooms were large, but when i checked the bathroom, it was so small that I couldn’t even fit in the tub. And it was definitely not what i expected. The breakfast was good but not a huge variety, in the photo i saw some fruit but in reality, it was notting but a lie. The beds from our rooms were very bad and we haven’t slept well for 2 days. Shame on you! Oh, and let’s not talk about the luggage room! It was so dirty and it was like a warehouse that was unexpected. What a waste of time to spend at this hotel! And on top of that, the windows did not open, the AC was noisy and did not work very well and you have to pay for Wifi!!! No one cleaned our rooms for 5 days and did not change any towels…. Stay away from this monstrosity!

I would not recommended this hotel to anyone wishing to stay in central london. I have stayed in many different travel lodges in London and many hotels over Europe and this has got to be the most shocking experience. I am not writing this as someone who likes to complain but as someone who appreciates the truth. Upon arrival the reception staff was dismissive and unwelcoming, who used the same robotic approach as well as no hospitality. After checking into our room and spending 5 minutes in the there we questioned if the window was open as we could hear the noise from the trains passing back as though we were on the station waiting for them. I understood that this goes hand in hand with the location of the hotel but when i pay for somewhere to sleep i would at least hope that the windows would block out some of the noice to enable that to happen. When a member of staff came to look at the problem we were, told ‘we have other rooms where it is louder and there is no problem, people like this room for the view’, which felt very dismissive, again, of the situation. When we asked if there would be other quieter room we could stay in we were then lied to and told ‘we are full this weekend’ and therefore requested some form of refund or compensation for the fact we would not be able to get a restful nights sleep in the place we had PAID to do so. Interestingly, when we asked this it appeared, 1 minute later, that the hotel wasn’t full and there was a quieter room available which we then gratefully were able to move into. After a trip out for the evening in a city which had been 30 degrees i headed to the bar for some ice and water as it was extremely hot and waited for 5 minutes for a member of staff but no one came so i took my request to reception. When i retched reception i was not greeted and 2 members of staff sat conversing happily and failed to acknowledge a customer. When they did, they only looked up from there screen to look at me for afew moments before looking away , back to the screen dispite being in conversation with me still. I asked the staff members if there was some ice or cold water and they laughed at me and said no, the maxine is broke again not making eye contact and being rude and dismissive.
