Touring park within the parkland of a working castle estate near Lauder
About Thirlestane Castle Caravan and Camping Park
Thirlestane Castle Caravan and Camping Park spreads across historic parkland surrounding a working castle estate on the outskirts of Lauder, about ten miles from Melrose along the A68. This family-run site offers fifty touring pitches—twenty-two on hardstanding—all with electric hook-ups, making it particularly well suited to caravans and motorhomes. The modern facilities block delivers heated showers with individual controls, accessible loos and laundry machines, while a play area keeps younger campers entertained and customer wifi keeps everyone connected. Dogs are welcome throughout.
Location is a real strength: Lauder's shops, pubs and hotels sit just five minutes' walk away, so you can stock up or grab dinner without moving the car. The Southern Upland Way passes within a few hundred metres, offering walkers a long-distance trail straight from the pitch, and the surrounding Borders countryside provides fishing and golf for calmer days. The park runs April to October and makes a popular touring base for visitors splitting time between Melrose, Edinburgh and the wider region—book ahead for peak summer weeks.

What visitors say
This site is predominantly seasonal pitches & therefore very quiet outside of holiday times. It is perfectly fine with decent sized pitches and clean facilities. We tried to wander over to the castle early evening, however, it had been booked for a private wedding function & as a result was very noisy until around 11pm. The small town has 1 hotel & a pub. Hotel was closed Friday night. Pub was full of very enthusiastic Scottish football supporters waiting for their World Cup clash to start! Tried to find a shop for a few bits & could only find fuel station with small shop. Except for the castle, possibly not much around for more than a couple of nights stay?
