🏡 Self-Catering Cottage

The Hen Hoose

Scottish Borders

The Scottish Borders landscape of rolling hills, river valleys and quiet country roads forms the backdrop to The Hen Hoose, a detached cottage in the hamlet of Langshaw. Everything sits on the ground floor, entered via two low steps. A wood-burning stove anchors the open-plan living and dining space, with a conservatory beyond that overlooks the surrounding countryside. The kitchen is well-equipped for self-catering, featuring a Rayburn, dishwasher and washing machine.

One bedroom holds a king bed with its own ensuite shower; the other has two single beds and shares a family bathroom with a bath. Essentials including Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels are provided, along with initial fuel for the stove. A gravelled terrace (note: it has six steps down to garden level) offers garden furniture and a BBQ. Private parking for two cars sits on site.

The location suits walkers and cyclists. The Southern Upland Way and Borders Abbey Way pass through the region; the Eildon Hills near Melrose are within reach, as are Glentress cycle trails with bike hire. Melrose itself, home to the ruined abbey where Robert the Bruce's heart is buried, lies a drive away and has shops, restaurants and gardens. Abbotsford House on the River Tweed is also nearby. The nearest shop, pub and restaurant are 5¼ miles away. The cottage does not allow smoking.
