The Boat House
Na h-Eileanan Siar
Lochmaddy, a working harbour village on North Uist, is the gateway to the Western Isles. The ferry terminal connects to Harris and Skye across The Minch, where crossings often bring sightings of dolphins and whales. An airport on nearby Benbecula, linked by causeway, offers an alternative arrival. From here, the islands open up for exploration—birdwatching (hen harriers and sea eagles are common), walking, and discovering the archaeological and historical sites scattered across the landscape.
The Boat House is a standalone cottage with one bedroom that sleeps three: a double bed upstairs, plus a single in the same galleried room, making it suitable for a couple with a child. Downstairs is a single open-plan space combining kitchen, dining and living areas, with wooden floors and French doors onto a patio overlooking the loch. A wood-burning stove provides warmth. The shower room is compact; a utility room handles laundry. Essentials including electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and wifi are covered. One car can park on site. An unfenced loch lies 100 yards from the property—worth noting if small children are visiting.
The cottage sits in a quiet spot with its own patio and picnic table, ideal for evening meals or watching sunsets. Lochmaddy village, with its shop, café, pub and restaurant, is close by. No smoking inside.
